I used to read tons of books, but now I would rather read/write fanfiction.
I definitely don't want to learn to knit. That's what old ladies do.
We aren't old ladies, we are young and hip and have above average intelligence and it is fun to share something that we have in common. The fanfiction gives us a common denominator and we talk about fanfiction and other stuff too.
Agreed - there's more to it, but yes - this is pretty much how I spend my free time nowadays, something my RL friends just don't get. They keep trying to get me to read Real Books, knit, go salsa dancing... And I'm happy with this. Reading and writing and making all these interesting friends is way better than just making... a scarf. :)

I couldn't agree more. Another advantage I think personally about reading/writing fanfiction is how sexual I feel all the time. My hubby definitely sees the advantages too. How sexy do you feel after you've had a lap full of yarn all night? Not so much I'd bet. LOL
