Hey, all of you lovely people who have me friended -- how do you decide where to post your stories? I've joined so many LJ and Yahoo groups that I'm suddenly realizing that if I post everything I write *everywhere* then I'm gong to be posting to 4 LJ communities, 7 Yahoo groups, 2 post-it-yourself web archives, and my own LJ and website. 11 posts, total.

Seems like overkill to me, not to mention a good way to piss people off.

Even taking into consideration that some fics don't go in some communities/groups, it's still a lot. So how do you all decide where to post? I don't want to spam the same people over and over again, but I would like to inflict my writings on as many different people as possible.

Thoughts/suggestions/curses/flames? Anyone? Help?

(and FYI - "The Right Fit" is complete and I'll be posting one chapter a day, so don't worry about having to wait forever like you did with EE. *g*)

Well, as for me, if it's V/O I post it to my lj and the vigorlean cult, and if it's A/L, I post it to my lj and the aragornlegolas lj comm. I was worried about spamming, and I figured most people are on more than one community. So I just post to one comm each time.

And ooh, am very excited about The Right Fight. :D Although I didn't mind waiting for EE. It was worth it.

For me I tend to post mostly to the yahoo groups the other vola, vola and characters in bloom then i post the stories on my relevant LJ's as i have ones for specific story types

then if i post in communities if the story doesnt fit anywhere except said community it only goes in that one, all others get linked back to the original journal entry where it does fit so they come back to my journals to read.

hope that helps in some way.

you still end up posting something everywhere like but i try and limit where i post if at all possible

I tend to post to lost of places, just because not everybody reads LJ, Yahoo groups (or the all the groups on either one), or the web archives. I don't think its a huge deal, and people are used to stories being x-posted like that anyways. Provided each post on LJ doesn't go overboard on the graphics or headers, i dont' see a problem.

I try to keep the crossposting to a minimum while still reaching most people. So I'll put the actually story at my LJ, maybe put a link at the most applicable comm, and then put the story at one or two groups, depending on the pairing and fandom. Unless it's something really odd, in which case it might just be at my LJ. For instance, if you post Right Fit LOTR RPS and one of the VO groups, you've pretty well got that fandom covered. (Althuogh I'd post to LOTR Adult Fiction as well, because it's a great place.)

Sometimes it's hard to avoid it. Not everyone is on the same lists, and some aren't on any and rely on archives. I don't mind people cross posting.

I think I'm going to risk spamming - at least for this one, since it fits into just about every community or group I'm in... I just hate worrying about annoying people. ;)

And thank you! I hope you like RF and I'm *still* pleased that you liked EE so much. *hug*

Thank you - I like hearing where people post all of theirs -- it gives me a sense of how much posting is about average, so I don't do too much. :)

Yeah, I almost wish there was an easy to compare lj community member lists, and see how many are duplicates.... But I am nowhere near enough of a geek to be able to figure out how to do that. Will have to ask my husband or something. :)

Thank you for the reassurance that xposting doesn't annoy people too much! *hug*

That's exactly me goal, and I think I'm failing - to keep x-posting to a minimum while still reaching a wide audience...

Hmm... Maybe I should add LOTR Adult Fanfiction to my reading list, too... Of course then I'd have to decide whether to post *there*, too. :P

Thanks for your thoughts!

True enough... I appreciate you sharing your thoughts on cross-posting -- I just don't want to annoy people. :)

Just look at it at multiple chances for people to reacquaint themselves with your work. You'd have to be daft to complain. :-)
