passionpurpose

I've been thinking about this every since I saw it. I don't know what my goals are, where I see myself in five years, what my purpose is, what my passion is. And that makes me really super anxious.

I mean, I'm very content with life. I can't think of much more to ask for. I feel good about that, yet I also think it's always good to have something to be moving toward. I don't know what my passion is anymore. my writing mojo and sex drive seem to have gone the way of my general depression and anxiety, probably casualties of Prozac. IDK...

So a few months ago a friend posted a link on Facebook that was Relevant to My Interests: http://sameatschildren.tumblr.com/post/45962915522/do-it-now-guide-to-proper-bra-fit-and-measuring

I’ve had huge boobs my entire life – I used to joke that the Breast Fairy (like the Tooth Fairy) stopped by my house in 7th grade and just dropped off her entire load for the month on my chest. I’m pretty disproportionate – even in high school at 110 lbs, I was all tits and ass, wearing a poorly-fitting 34D cup. I’ve been wearing a 38DDD for about the last fifteen years, and I’ve been fitted a few times, but I’ve always suspected bras were meant to be more comfortable than they are.

So I read the article above, and I was terrified of what the results might be. I talked to Elin, who is both quite busty and also spent a winter working at a lingerie shop. She offered to do it with me. Armed with tape measures, figurative loins girded, I measured myself in California while she measured herself in Iceland.

The instructions are to do underbust, then bend over and measure over your nipples. I got 36 inches for the first measurement. And 49 inches for the second measurement – a 13 inch difference. According to the chart on the website, that would make me a 36M.

I remeasured. I measured in the other two positions. I took an average. Still M. I cried a little.Read more... )

I have a huge long list of things I've ben meaning to write about (trip to England, Queer Camp, the garden, life, whatnot) but... screw it, I'm just going to write about today.

Today I went with a friend to a plus-size lingerie fashion show. It was FABULOUS! http://curvygirlinc.com/buy-lingerie/

The models were mostly regular people/friends of the owner, but confident and WOW! Confidence is sexy! I'm not always the best at body acceptance, and the kind of lingerie they were showing wasn't the sort of thing I would wear usually, but it was just a fantastic experience. Almost every woman there was plus size, and almost all of them were dressed up, well put together, gorgeous women. Women who know their size, know their shape, and work with it rather than against it.

Also, the models were all ages = probably 20something to 50something. It was lovely to see that being sexy and sassy isn't limited to just the young and beautiful.

And everything on the website is shown ON A PLUS SIZE BODY - those of you my size know how rare that is! Usually they show a picture of the size 5 model and just list that it goes up to bigger numbers. :P This way you can see how it looks with a belly and big thighs - yay!

I feel so sexy and bold and brave and strong. I'm definitely going back to the shop when it's less crowded - at the very least, I want some of the fishnet stockings with rhinestones up the backseam! :)

Last month I did a Valentine's project, which was fun for me to do, although I admit to being a little sad that I didn't see anyone else participate on their blogs. But whaetver - I had fun and I hope I cheered some people up and brought smiles to your faces.

This month, what are *YOU* going to do? :)

On a more serious note, Valentine's day is about love. And the surest way to invite love into your life it so express gratitude for the love you have already received. Today's activity is to share a story about the most generous thing someone has done for you, recently or ever, big or small. Think hard, and post a new thread or leave a comment. :)

What springs to mind the most for me as I sit here at the moment, is a non-monetary moment of generosity - my friends Briya and Kristin. They each took care of Hershey while Gerald and I were in the UK and Iceland. They offered without my asking them directly (or indirectly).

Kristin has three kids, 11 to 6, one home school because of special needs. Her husband works full time, she works full time from home doing web design support, and they also have a dog. When she heard Hershey was having blood in his bowels three days before we planned to leave, she offered to take him, watch him carefully, give him all his medicine and special food, and update us about what was going on, in addition to her already super busy life. She had him for 14 days. Not only wouldn't she let us pay her, she keeps offering to have him come visit again.

Briya lives in a small studio with a bulldog who doesn't always get along with other dogs. She couldn't take Hershey at her home, but when he was at his second home (Kristin couldn't keep him for all 21 days, so he went to visit another friend, Catherine, for a week), Briya drove 30 min each way to walk him every day. When Hershey was driving Catherine and her cat insane and he moved to stay at our house for the last four days, Briya came over to hang out with him for a few hours, play, and just be company for him. She even spent the night with him once.

Both of them sent me emails throughout our trip letting me know how the dog was getting along, helping out with the disaster of him staying with Catherine, and being amazingly selfless with their time and their homes.

Gifts like that you can only repay in kind. :) I'm blessed to have them, to have such a great circle of friends - my spirit family.

Day 1 =

Remember how much fun it used to be when we'd just write short little excerpts/scenes/ideas for each other? A drabble is only 100 words! One paragraph!

Post to you blog and take a few requests, with whatever parameters you want to set, and give someone the gift of words and creativity for Valentine's day!

♥ I'll write any pairing within the Avengers EXCLUDING anything with Pepper or Maria Hill or Fury. Three or more is okay, gen is okay.
♥ Het's not my strong point.
♥ Drabbles = drabbleish = 100 minimum, but I'm not going to trim.
♥ I hereby promise to complete ALL drabbles by midnight on the 17th.
♥ You MUSt give me a prompt as well as a pairing. Here's a fun list of Valentines vocabulary to choose from: http://www.enchantedlearning.com/wordlist/valentine.shtml

It’s no secret that I love Valentine’s Day. Not for the romantic angle, per se, but for the love and goofy silly generosity among friends, like in grade school. Silly little cards and way too many heart-shaped cookies. A lot of people have been sadly noting that our blogs and groups have lost their “community feeling” lately – here’s a way to combat that trend *and* do something fun and easy!

I’ve comprised a list of activities to participate in for the 10 Days of Valentines. You can participate in all of them, some of them, or even just comment to express your appreciation! The goal is to bring light-hearted cheer and laughter to everyone.

If words aren't your thing, how about offering some art? If fiction isn't your bag, what about offering that anyone who asks, you'll write a nice compliment for? :)

If you don't have a blog or want to limit your offer to a smaller group, start an email thread!

Dreamspinner is looking for a few more submissions for the daily dose anthology. Full details are here: http://www.dreamspinnerpress.com/store/pages.php?pID=7&CDpath=0

Make a Play - No Losers in the Game of Love

Dreamspinner Press is seeking romantic short stories and novellas containing themes and settings related to sports of any kind. This can be much more than athletes and competitions. We encourage authors to think outside the box.

Possible examples: A fan who goes to baseball games weekly catches the eye of a hotdog vendor. A physical therapist takes a job working on the football sidelines and falls for the coach. A retired athlete takes a high school coaching job and hits it off with another teacher. A college student joins the cheer team and gets more than just a tumbling partner. A single father meets another while they watch their sons at T-ball. Two players face off first at a cutthroat chess tournament and later in the bedroom. The owner of a sporting goods store sponsors an athlete in a local competition and becomes his biggest fan. A rookie player goes to a near-retirement veteran for pointers in the game, life, and love. The kid who was always picked last for teams in gym class falls for the reporter interviewing him when he grows up to buy a major sports franchise.
