Because I was curious, even though no one pinged me (and no, that's not a pathetic cry for attention - I honestly don't mind), and because I spent about 5 SOLID HOURS dusting bookshelves this weekend, I just went and counted:
1152 books currently in our house
8 books on loan to other people
And I did NOT count any spiral bound, stapled, or binder-bound materials - including chap books, readers, journals (like the kind you write in), magazines/journals/articles, maps, or comics, and I totally skipped my husband's huge collection of gaming-rules books.
I'm still impressed.
