a love letter to my f-list

fab_feb_friends: Today's activity is to share the love by sharing your memories. Make a post on your journal to spin some yarns about how you came to find and love these folks who make it worth your time to surf the internet.
When I first got an LJ account I friended a few BNF in HP fandom and mostly just lurked, aside from the initial two people I knew from yahoo groups,
olivia_lupin and
maruchina. Over time, I added fandoms, posted a few fics, and out of the blue people who I didn't know at all started to add me. So I added them back, read their journals... And some of them became among the most important people in my life.
Most of the super-good friends I have from LJ are the ones I correspond with in email or talk to in chat a lot (or used to - *mental note to return some emails*). Some people I only know through LJ comments and google groups, and would love to know better. I am touched by the sense of community, the (general) acceptance of other points of view, the whole-hearted positive attitude about sex, and the openness of fandoms. Some fandoms wank more than others, some are cliquier, some are tin-hattier, but they're all created and exist to share the love and enthusiasm and squee. And through that rather silly common bond, we've found each other.
I have had stories published in actual novels, traveled to two different countries, met people from all over the US, written stories on far wider themes and subjects than I would have in a vacuum, thanks to my f-list. I have had crushes, I have giggled, I have snuggled, and I have wanted to snog more of you than I will ever admit. *g* I have also been given the emotional support to deal with marriage troubles, my best friend's suicide, my parent's ill health, my mental breakdowns, and starting my own sexuality coaching business - including self-publishing my book.
All because of you.
There are a lot of people on my f-list I don't know very well, some new friends and some old. I lurk more than I'd like and comment less. But you all collectively bring a lot of joy to my life and I look forward to getting to know many of you better as the days pass.
