Today's "Most Wise" award goes to [livejournal.com profile] megyal, for her thoughts on just writing what you write and being happy with it.

So on that note, I'm going to finish my fluffy J2 today and quit struggling with the angsty HP fic, I think. I am not a brilliant writer. And if I am, it's by accident, so I'm just going to go forward and quit fretting about trying to be popular/famous/brilliant.

Also, I'm passing along a meme that was different and fun, from [livejournal.com profile] obselizabeth:

I'm not going to screen comments. Should be fun to see some of the answers. If you wish to answer privately, email me: salixbabylon at yahoo dot com.

Choose any/all of the following:

1. If you had to describe your disposition in meteorological terms, what would a typical forecast be? (Example: Partly cloudy with a chance for sun later in the day)

2. You have been given the chance to jump into a pool of anything you wish, purely for the sensational experience. What substance would you want to jump into?

3. Write a springtime haiku (5-7-5) that includes a reference to something in your yard.

4. Write a list of ten items that make you feel happy in the morning.

5. Describe your fashion style in less than twenty words.

6. Can you judge a book by its cover?

7. Do you fully understand how radio waves work? Or are you just happy that they crash into your ears so you can hear them?

8. What do you miss most about your childhood?

9. If you followed the Yellow Brick Road, but took a wrong turn at the Scarecrow, where would you end up?

10. If you could be any Superhero for the day, which Superhero would you be and why?

1. Sunny and warm, with a chance of clouds in the evening.

2. I can't think of anything better than water. I *like* water.

3.
Seven million weeds
so tiny, fragile, and new.
Lawnmower comes Sunday.

4. tea, classical music alarm clock, dog snoring, warm sleepy husband, dew outside making the grass sparkly, everyone else driving to work, flannel jammies, toast, LJ, and my mug with Inuit salmon designs on it.

5. Comfortable, unsophisticated, feminine ass-kicking

6. yes, sometimes

7. just happy to listen ;)

8. nothing at all

9. in the forest with the apple trees

10. I'm already a superhero, damnit. I want a day off.

And one more, since I'm still a history junkie:

I'm Charles the Mad. Sclooop.

Yay! I was Charles too!!

1. Florida has this thing in the summers. It's so bright and sunny and hot and the sky is bluer than any blue you ever thought existed. But then, in the early afternoon, a couple white fluffy clouds move in and suddenly, it's raining. But it's still bright and sunny and hot. And the rain isn't to hard. Just enough that you want to sit and stare and smile at it. Then it ends. And it's bright and sunny and hot again, this time without the showers. Then around 3 or 4 in the afternoon, things change. Very, very suddenly. It goes from the bright and sunny and hot to dark and thunderstorming in moments (literally...I've been chased across a parking lot by a wall of water moving behind me). And it's wild and loud and passionate and hot and wet. And then it's over. By about 5, the whole thing is gone. There may be a few clouds left over, but they just haze over the sun as it sets and lights up the sky in bright oranges and reds, chased by dark blues and violets. That's how I see myself. That day. All days like that.

I was born during one of those summer afternoon thunderstorms.

2. Something cool and silky. I actually love going skinny dipping during the summer. It's just so cool on the skin all over when it's so hot out. So, water is just fine with me actually!

4. Sleep, my comforter, my cat asleep on my comforter next to me, sunlight, grits with cheese.

5. “I base my fashion sense on what doesn't itch.”
--Gilda Radner

6. Sometimes. But only if the title and author are clearly listed. And it helps to have a short summary on the back.

7. Yes. Yes.

9. All roads lead to Rome.

1. Expect snow showers throughout the day.

2. LIQUID GOLD.

4. Rebel, sunshine coming through the windows, snow in the yard, warm bed, comfy blanket, good tv... I've run out of things. :/

5. The epitome of tomboy.

6. No but I do anyway.

7. I don't understand anything, I'm just glad it's there.

8. The tv shows.

9. Cinderella's Castle?

10. The daughter from the Incredibles. She could turn invisible AND had a forcefield to protect her from all attacks. That's pretty awesome.

1. If you had to describe your disposition in meteorological terms, what would a typical forecast be? (Example: Partly cloudy with a chance for sun later in the day)

Picture perfect day! (If I'm the weatherman, I can say what I want)

2. You have been given the chance to jump into a pool of anything you wish, purely for the sensational experience. What substance would you want to jump into?

There's a recent advertisement on the television where a man's lying in a pool of ball bearings, with speakers all around. I'd want to be in there with some real good bass!

3. Write a springtime haiku (5-7-5) that includes a reference to something in your yard.

Flowers spring anew,
Bathed in moist droplets of dew.
Oh, how I love you!

4. Write a list of ten items that make you feel happy in the morning.

A note of love left in my email, coffee with cinnamon, oatmeal, the local weatherman, secret early morning phone calls

5. Describe your fashion style in less than twenty words.

COMFORT!

6. Can you judge a book by its cover?

Depends on the cover.

7. Do you fully understand how radio waves work? Or are you just happy that they crash into your ears so you can hear them?

No, but I have a good geeky friend who I could spend hours listening to as he explained the theory ;)

8. What do you miss most about your childhood?

Innocence

9. If you followed the Yellow Brick Road, but took a wrong turn at the Scarecrow, where would you end up?

Starbucks?

10. If you could be any Superhero for the day, which Superhero would you be and why?

No morning for you - noted.

Not having to work was pretty good. I do miss not fretting about money, although I think that ended for me around age 10 or so. Ah well. ;)

Have you seen the silly putty in an egg? You push your finger into it and it pushes the air out and makes this huge fart sound.

Yes, I am juvenile.

I work with 4 year-olds. At that age, farts ARE funny. :P

I love you summer thunderstorm story. :) Thanks for sharing it with me.

I haven't been in the south very often, but I do recall being awed by those sudden downpours, preceded and followed by utter clarity... Strangeness in the air... What a nice thing to be reminded of. *hug*

SO MANY. I'm just going to list off the ones I recall.

There was Eureka's Castle, David the Gnome, Muppet Babies, Fraggle Rock, My Little Pony, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Gummi Bears, this Japanese Koala bear show but I don't remember the name of it, She-Ra, Jem, Smurfs, Dino Riders, Care Bears, Rainbow Brite and um I can't think of any more. But I know there are some I'm missing. Pretty much if it was on in the late 80s/early 90s, I watched it. Especially if it aired on Nickelodeon or Disney.

Wow. Nothing highlights an age difference like TV shows when you were a kid. I never saw or heard of half of those. But then I gradauted from high school in 1991. ;)

Well some of them aren't exactly memorable (hence why they're not available on DVD *grumbles*) but they're all a part of my childhood. Just like the shows my parents talk about that I've never actually seen evidence of. What ones were your favorites from when you were a kid? I'm really curious actually. I'm quite the tv fiend. :P

I do sometimes worry about age differences here on LJ. It's why I try not to usually bring focus to it. But, well, no way around it in this case. :P

Hmmm... Shows from my childhood are weird because we didn't have a TV for about 4 years, age 10-14. Otherwise I remember watching Scooby Doo and random always-on kids shows like Seasame Street. Around the time I stopped watching cartoons, the big ones were the Smurfs and Inspector Gadget and He-Man. I remember a lot of in-syndication shows, too, because this was in the days before cable was common - Three's Company and Gilligan's Island were on after school. I don't remember many prime-time TV shows, but I think I went to bed at 8pm. ;)

I forget about the age differences most of the time. I don't feel like "OMG - I'm so old, poor me" or like "Damn, you're a child, reading my porno stories", just more like "wow - I forgot my LJ friends span such a wide age range and different childhood experiences." It's good for me to remember that soemtimes.

I guess even though we never really got pocket money, we never worried too much about money because we were relatively happy with what we had and we used to make up things to entertain ourselves with as well. LOL I remember being 10 and running around the back garden 'training' because we were playing Police Academy.

I saw all those too! The cartoon ones I mean. I always forget about Inspector Gadget, I don't think I liked it as much as my brother did. :P

I remember they loved showing the syndication shows from the 70s too. Actually me and my brother got really attached to the Muppet Show even though I'm sure we had no clue who the guest stars were. :P
