inflicting pictures
Apr. 17th, 2005 05:53 pmAm finally really home (was only half-home before, i.e. staying at my in-laws' for the night on the way back) and my ears have popped. Still sick, but very glad to be home and able to fully geek out. :)
OK, so it doesn't snow in Santa Cruz. Like, ever. It rarely freezes even, so like most people who grew up somewhere other than the CA coast, sometimes we need to go somewhere that it snows. In California, this is calling "going to the snow." Some people ski or snowboard, but mostly we just go to look at the marvel that is frozen water on the ground. I occasionally strap on snowshoes and clomp around, while my sweetie goes cross-country skiing with the dog and/or we throw snowballs for the dog to fetch/get confused by. Mostly, we stay inside and read and eat and revel in not being at home.
The cabin we stay at (
heartofslash corrected me that this is a house, not a cabin. ;) )

Look! Snow! Actually, I really was surprised that there was so much snow in mid-April. I gather that's fairly unusual, but we were at an elevation of 6000 feet, so not totally unheard of.

Having artistic pretensions:

Wildebeest tracks!

(I know, I know - too many dog pictures. Can't help it - no kids.)

Date: 2005-04-18 04:03 am (UTC)I just can't imagine living in that area/your area permanently. Snow always seems to unreal to me, a "treat" that you go and gawk at once a year. Gorgeous, though. I'm glad you made it through the hard winter and I hope spring has reached your place by now!
