grins and UK vacation suggestions

Thank you thank you thank you for all the love and support - you guys are just fabulous. It really touches my heart that people I know only online have been so supportive and encouraging as I've struggled through this last year of school, and are so happy for me that I've finally fucking finished.

Ok, I'm all weepy now. *blows nose*

On a lighter note, I got a lovely letter in today's post from justinetre, and it reminded my husband and I that it's time to get planning our trip to the UK. So far our pans are *cough* somewhat vague - spend a week or so in London itself, spend a week or so in one or more other places, and then a few more days in London, for a total of 2-3 weeks.

Our must-see list is also rather vague, as I want to see everything ever, and he's equally easygoing. The "list" includes:
- the Tate
- The British Museum
- go on one of the cheezy Tower of London tours
- see a play
- Soho/somewhere kitchy and gay in London
- Stonehenge
- Oxford, especially the library whose name I'm blanking on because I suck
- our friend Heather who lives in "godforsakennowhere but I'll take you to the Cadbury plant if you come visit me"

As you can see, not a lot to fill up 3 weeks. So I'd welcome suggestions.

Also, I know many people find this disconcerting and weird, but I'd love to meet anyone who is willing to hook up with a wacky slasher and her very tolerant and patient husband. I can provide credentials that I'm not a stalker or a homicidal freak, even. ;) So if you're interested in hooking up, let me know.

And I'm on YM (and AIM, thanks to trillion) pretty often, if anyone wants to get to know me better through chatting before committing to anything. :)

The Bodleian Library....they were just filming Harry Potter there a few months ago. In Oxford, I'd also recommend walking around one of the colleges, both Christ Church and Magdalan are especially lovely.

Yup, that's the library I was thinking of! Interesting - I wonder what they're going to do with the next Harry Potter movie that they needed the library for...

Canterbury. And not only because of you know who - I've loved it for years and years. You have to do some gardens, just because. Sissinghurst if you go that way. Oh, and what's that big garden called not too far from Oxford, where Churchill was born or something, Blenham? And if you're anywhere near Cadbury's, you're probably not too far from Nottingham, so you can go visit Robin Hood. Oh, and I personally utterly love Stratford-upon-Avon.

Congratulations on graduation. Not being American, I'm not too sure what exactly that means and what you're going to do with it now?

Great ideas - thank you so much! I haven't been to any of those places. :)

And thank you for the congratulations - I'm finishing my Master's degree in Library and Information Science, which means I might become a librarian or archivist or something soon. (Master's is a 2-year program, after the 4-year basic university Bachelor's degree, and before another 4 years of a Doctorate program, which I won't be doing.)

The Wallace Collection. It's an amazing collection assembled by a father and son during the 17th and 18th centuries and donated to the state by the younger's widow (i.e. admission is free). The two were collecting at the time the French Gov't was selling off the furnishings of Versailles, so it features better examples of the porcelain and furnishings than Versailles. It also has a great collection of paintings, armour, furniture, snuff boxes etc. Best thing we saw in London.

And there's Madame Tussauds or summat, the waxworks. Harrods is cool to see coz it's so big.
Apparently in Leicester Square there's a Rocky Horror Picture Show showing that people get decked out for, etc.

First, wow I'm late! I'm catching up, so...if you do come to Stratford upon Avon (you nutter), you'll have to let me know. I live ten minutes from there. And I envy you for going to Stonehenge, I really do want to. If you want more stone circles, there's Avebury...and if you want to get away from the cities etc (and you can't make it to Scotland), the Lake District is gorgeous. :D

And I have AIM (niennasdreams) if you ever want to talk. :)

I think Stonehenge is quite far away from me. In terms of England at least. :) Would've been nice though. And it was lovely chatting to you this morning, it really was. I look forward to the next time, and maybe if we get a few chats in, we'd both be okay about meeting up in Stratford. :)

I am remembering that I have a very different attitude about what counts as "far away" as compared to most Brits. ;) I recall that my friend and I drove from Cambridge to Aberystyth and that wasn't too bad to my fellow-Californian but the two native boys in the car thought it was horrendous to spend -4 whole HOURS- driving! *giggle*

*hugs* Chatting was great - hopefully by August we will both be more relaxed about potentially meeting each other in the flesh. ;)
