babbling about food/weight/body stuff
Jun. 21st, 2011 07:52 pmI had really excellent meeting with the nutritionist yesterday. I was a bit emo, but basically she said that I know what I need to know, I know how to get where I want to be, and I just need someone to help me stay on the path. Apparently a once-a-week (or more by email) check-in is part of her job, covered by our HMO.
She thinks the problem is that I try to do to much all at once, and then keep failing. Her anology was that it's like deciding to go win a marathon (not just *run* one), when you don't ever run. You go out there, you run a few blocks at top speed, you feel like you're going to die, you stop. Six motnhs later you do it again. And again. And again. And it will never work. Because what you *should* do is walk the marathon. Or part of it. A few times a week.
So instead of all these lofty goals I set for myself (5 times a week, 40 minutes, no carbs, no fats, 80 lbs in a year, etc), she thinks all I need to do (at least to "get up to speed") is write down what I eat, only measurethe carbs, and do 20 min of sweat-inducing exercise 3 time a week. I can eat anything I want, in any quantity, until next week. At which point she'll look at the carbs and maybe make some suggestions. But butter, chocolate, tea, lots of fruit are all okay.
She seems to think I can lose 25 lbs in 3 months. I would predict 6 months, but still. I'll try it.
Frustrating thing is, I know baby steps work. But I always quit because I'm not meeting my goals fast enough (both weight loss *and* writing goals). Hopefully this time with someone poking me Every Single Week, it will work. I woke up this morning feeling so much more hopeful than I've felt in a long time.
This helped too:

Thank you, Fandom Secrets person. :)
