Read two things I quite liked recently:
resonant8's Transfigurations! - Harry/Draco
Summary - Five years after Voldemort's defeat, Harry returns to England to help re-open Hogwarts.
My Thoughts - She comes up with brilliantly creative magic/spells/whatnots, with the mines and Calligromancy. I SO suck at that kind of thing, and am in awe. Also, her Harry and Draco are very "real" - Harry's defensive and damaged and a bit thick at times, while Draco is brilliant and "good", but still vicious and funny as hell.
Rating - NC17 overall
And followed
isiscolo's rec to Dementor Delta's Parseltongue-Tied - Harry/Severus
Summary - Harry makes friends with one of nature's shy creatures.
My Thoughts - I didn't think I was going to really like this because I knew what was what from the beginning, but then I kept thinking "well, maybe not..." throughout the story. I quite liked her Harry and LOVED Snake. Snake is my favorite animal-in-fic ever. I love how she does the parseltongue-to-english phrases.
Rating - R is what it says - I'd say NC17.
Frankly, often I'm not sure exactly what the lines are between R and NC17 in writing...
Also, I am amused that when I'm writing a particular pairing, I go out of my way to avoid reading that combo, in case I might steal someone's ideas or voice. So I've been reading lots more H/D and am rediscovering how good they are together. It's kind of an extra-special treat, because I have no DracoMuse in my head and doubt I'll ever write him. Yum!
Edited to add: Well, I've read more than those two, of course, but the other ones I'd want to rec expose a bit too much of my personal kinks, so I'm sparing you all. Oooh yeah, that's good smut!
