Note To Self:

If you are reading a fic or watching a TV show, and the sex is hothothot or the actors are attractive or whatever, but the story gets all horror-movie-ish with rape and torture and Bad Things Happening, then YOU ARE NOT REQUIRED TO KEEP READING/WATCHING IT.

You know you have nightmares. You are a grown woman. You don't have to prove how cool you are to anyone. You don't *have* to know how the story ends. If you aren't enjoying it, you can bloody well *stop* at chapter 5 rather than reading all the way through chapter 50 to the end.

And don't skim/knit either. You're not fooling your subconscious when you pretend not to notice a dismemberment, ok?

Slash is supposed to be fun for you. So is TV. Stop with the horror stuff and maybe your brain will be a little less freaky, ok?

*sigh*

I'm laughing quietly but will of course now turn sympathetic... Aawww. What on earth kind of story were you reading that was so scary?

I hear you on the horror movie situation. I also know I can't watch then - and on the rare, rare occasions when someone convinces me to do so, I regret it for a long time (well, every time there is a strange shadow or a sound or a mirror or a steamy bathroom or, or.... ). I really can't handle it. I'm a bit better with fics (and I do what you do - I read really fast and don't linger on the details hoping that will work) - and I have to know the ending, I can't just leave at chapter 5 but you're right... We should!

It was a well-written story so I don't want to say anything bad about it: http://ashwinder.sycophanthex.com/viewstory.php?sid=8755

I never watch horror movies, but sometimes I get freaked out by things like certain episodes of scifi TV shows and the like. I hope I can stick to this resolution - I'm tired of having yucky dreams about fictional characters. :P

Don't you hate that! It happened to me one day, because of a lack of warnings. I read a death fic and a rape fic back to back because neither one had warnings and by the time I realized what was going on, I couldn't look away. It's the train wreck syndrome. I swear it is. If you need something to help cleanse your brain, I highly recommend Key Turn of the Ring by [Bad username or site: baileymoyes.livejournal.com @ livejournal.com]. It's a sweet, sappy love story guaranteed to turn your mood right around!

That should be [livejournal.com profile] baileymoyes. It's too early in the morning for me to be typing, clearly.
