"Come on, mate when was the last time you took some time off to play at the beach?"

Johnny shrugged. "A few weeks ago?"

Orlando rolled his eyes. "Yeah, but that was different. Tons of people about, on a boat - you didn't even get wet. When was the last time you were at the beach, you know, with sand crunching between your toes?"

"Been a while, I guess."

"Right then. So that's what we should do," Orlando smiled.

"We?"

Pushing aside a hint of nervousness, Orlando answered, "Well, I'm sure you're sick of me after spending all day together filming, but... yeah. It'd be nice. We haven't done much of that this time, yet."

It went unspoken that they'd spent a lot more time together on the last shoot. And that everything had gotten weird after the premiere. Orlando had simply been his usual exuberant self, but apparently Johnny wasn't comfortable with being jumped on and climbed all over in public, like the cast of 'Rings' had been. He hadn't meant to make his friend uncomfortable at all; he'd just forgotten that Johnny wasn't as touchy-feely as his previous cast-mates.

Unfortunately Orlando's thoughtlessness had cost him his friendship with Johnny; at least that's how it seemed. Phone calls after the premiere were not returned without long delays, and after a time, he'd let it go. Embarrassing a man of Johnny's fame in front of the Press was no small matter, really. But after a few weeks together working on the sequels, he'd seemed to thaw and Orlando hoped that maybe, if he kept his hands to himself, they could reconcile.

Hence the idea of going to the beach.

After a long moment of thinking, Johnny nodded. "Yeah, I suppose being in the water without a whole film crew joining us would be nice. I haven't just soaked up the sun and waves in a while..."

They ended up making plans for late afternoon/early evening, an early dinner followed by the beach at sunset, when most folks would be gone.

A few days later found Orlando racing across town, running late. They were eating at a cantina that made the best fish tacos on earth, but was very casual, right on the beach with sand instead of flooring. The evening felt anything but casual to Orlando, though.

He'd missed them hanging out together, their friendship, Johnny's easy-going and laid-back style. Johnny could be serious, of course; even reserved or aloof. But he also had a wicked streak that matched Orlando's. To say nothing of the attraction, of course.

Really – Orlando would say nothing about it, ever again. Not since that one hug on the red carpet in Disneyland, where he told Johnny he looked good enough to eat and felt the other man's body go tense in his arms. Johnny in a full suit, fedora, and shades was playing "movie star" and Orlando in a t-shirt and loose trousers was just like some overexcited puppy slobbering all over the place.

So tonight was a bit of a big deal to Orlando. Just mates; no worries.

Their dinner was fantastic, as predicted, tacos with fresh-caught snapper and an endless supply of Pacifico that had them both in good spirits by the time they paid the bill and left. In sandals, board shorts, and t-shirts, they ambled down to the water's edge, kicking off their shoes.

Orlando pulled off his shirt, whooping "Come on, old man!" and made for the waves. Behind him, the sun hastened its descent to the slate blue horizon, an orange ball being slowly dipped in the sea, clouds shot with every shade of orange, red, yellow and pink that was possible.

Orlando splashed out to his waist; Johnny paused, fixated on the colors. Orlando scooped up a handful of water and tossed it at him. "Come on, the water's perfect!"

Laughing, Johnny unexpectedly tackled him, pushing Orlando backwards as a wave came up behind him, and Orlando went under. He came up sputtering saltwater from the nose and mouth, but wrapped his leg around Johnny's and pulled him under, too. Things escalated from there.

They'd retreated to shallower waters, wrestling all the way, when Orlando gave out a yelp and started to wiggle around like a mad thing. In between laughs Johnny managed to gasp out an inquiry.

"There's something in my shorts!"

Johnny wiggled his eyebrows. "I should hope so, since Will's supposedly not a eunuch after all."

"No, seriously; there's something in there!" Without thinking, Orlando grabbed his waistband and shoved his shorts down.

Johnny hooted with laughter at Orlando, bare naked, fiddling with his wet clothing as if he'd personally been invaded.

Pulling a string of kelp out of the sodden fabric, Orlando looked at it, puzzled. "I swear I felt something wiggling, like a fish," he said.

Johnny shook his head. "Could have been. Not likely one would have stayed around after that impressive little strip show of yours."

Orlando threw the kelp at him.

With a howl, Johnny tackled him again and they went down in a tangle of arms and legs.

Orlando grabbed some more seaweed and tried to shove it down Johnny's shorts, but somehow ended up just tugging them down to the top of the other man's thighs. Johnny wasn't really paying attention, which surprised Orlando. So he kept tugging, purposefully waiting for Johnny to notice, until the shorts were tangled around his calves.

When Johnny did perceive that he too was essentially naked, he gave Orlando an odd look and pulled him closer rather than shoving him away. "If you're going to take off my clothes, you should at least kiss me first, don't you think?" he asked, a smile tugging at his mouth as he pressed their warm bodies together.

Orlando blinked in shocked surprise.

Johnny grabbed him by the arm, dragging him out of the water and down onto the smooth sand. Waves washed up their legs as they kissed for the first time, cool sand and wet bodies and warm mouths tangled together just as the last sliver of sun dropped behind the sea.
