I liked this a lot. A whole lot. I've been trying to figure out how to express why I like it so much but I'm finding it difficult for some reason. Beside the fact that I always love when you get in their heads and show us what's rattling around in there, I think what really tugs at me is that it was Eric who stopped it. I'm picturing him literally hovering just next to the door probably feeling anxious and unsettled for different reasons. And then the whole idea that even if they acknowledge to themselves that they're in love, they seem (right now at least) resigned to having to split up makes me sad.
He pressed his lips together, trying not to make any noise, because somehow it would make everything much much worse if he called out and Eric didn’t come. If he really was all alone. I love this part because I can completely feel it. Better to believe that he's just messing with your head than to realize he really left.
He always did that, took things one step further, outside Ewan’s carefully assessed acceptable-risk level and made Ewan feel, well, unsettled. Unbalanced. Uncertain. I imagine Eric feels the same about Ewan. I think that's why I like this series so much. Both of them are always "pushing" or challenging the other.
