Draco-spotting
Oct. 16th, 2003 08:45 amI said I wasn't posting very much, and then suddenly all this activity in one week. This is for Olivia, because I simply had to share that I think I found a college-age Draco on campus yesterday.
He had unusually pale skin, more pointy features, far more angular than Tom Felton's looks like it's shaping up to be; more of an elven/Scandinavian/Icelandic kind of angular face, if you'll forgive my gross over-generalizations. Piercing eyes, but not blue really, more colorless or possibly gray-green-hazel than blue. Angry eyes. Hair obviously bleached white blond, with that sort of yellow undertone from bleaching. Not terribly tall, maybe 5'8"-5'9" would be my guess. Not horrifically thin, but certainly on the lean side; long fingered delicate hands, though, not at all rough looking, despite the fact that he was wearing a wetsuit which left nothing to the imagination, which is probably bad, given my current imaginings now. Blush Not really terribly muscular, just a nice, lightweight build. Hair long enough to fall into place naturally without being slicked back or looking overly groomed, but not looking overly shaggy either. Obviously, if he's doing the surfer thing, it's a recent hobby, probably started when school started a moth ago, since he doesn't have even a slight tan.
But what caught my attention, because blond surfer boys in a wetsuit isn't unusual enough to catch my attention around here, aside the paleness of his skin, was just his aura, this projection of complete superiority barely covering massive inferiority. He just looked so aloof, yet so vulnerable, like he would be the prickliest person ever if you made an overture of friendship, yet desperately lonely and uncertain. Standing off from the group of other surfers he was with, looking very unsure in his face but with an obvious attempt to look confident in his posture. And for some reason, it just screamed college-age Draco, after a childhood and education of privilege, suddenly finding himself alone. Draco, post-Hogwarts, surfing in California.
*g*
So anyway, I found him. So far, I've "found" adult-ish versions of Draco and Fred-n-George (didn't really like how the twins were cast in the movie to begin with). The boy who I think should play them... Well, let's just say that I've never found redheads to be even slightly attractive, but, well, YUM.
One couldn't possibly do better than Alan Rickman for Snape, and there are way too many long-haired, slick, god's-gift-to-women, black-haired, tattooed Sirius-types around here to shake a stick at. Not really my type actually, although certainly the dark part is... Dark, mysterious, brooding, intelligent tends to be more my type than the biker-type. Duh. ;)
I haven't really bothered looking for a young woman who looks like Hermione; can't really tell how she's going to go from the books; certainly I pictured her with curly/bushy hair from the books, which Emma Watson just doesn't have. And I've never bothered trying to envision a Harry (not that I really tried for the twins or Draco) because I can't picture anyone wearing glasses like that into adulthood, and I can't imagine him without the glasses.
But now I can stop looking for blonds, trying to figure out what an adult, pale, unbleached white blond boy would look like, and can happily return to my quest for spotting a Lupin or a younger Severus.
