But I like to think that it took Sam's character a bit longer to... come out, so to speak. I think Dean is a bit more open and straight forward, especially in the first season and you quickly feel like you "know him" or "get him". To me, Sam's always been a bit reserved and it took me a while to "connect" with him.
Again, I think you and Katie have hit the nail on the head. Dean's easier to connect to. I get the feling Sam is hiding something, and I don't know why he left his brother and father in the first place... I don't trust him as easily as I do Dean. Yet. ;)
