My theory is that 80% of first-time SPN watchers are Jensen/Dean girls. Then as they watch more and get more involved, a part of them moves on to be Jared/Sam girls and the rest say with Jensen/Dean. And in the end, it's very close to around 50/50. But that of course doesn't count those that refuse to chose or "label" themselves as either oen or the other. There's a large group of those and frankly, I wish more were like that. It would make the fandom happier I think :P

That makes a lot of sense. It is so easy to immediately "get" Dean. It takes a bit more time to see that Sam isn't just a whiney, emo boy.

Personally, I'm a Dean/Jensen girl. But I love Sam because Dean does. Neither of the brothers would make it without the other one. That's why it surprises me if people really don't like one of the boys. You have to understand how connected they are, otherwise they don't make sense.

oh yeah, I'm completely bewildered over the fact that there are "fans" out there that seriously dislike either character and their respective actors. Just, What The Fuck?!! I can understand having a slight preference, but to actually dislike... O.o

I started out giving Superntural a chance because I'd like Jensen for many years, from Dark Angel, to Dawson's Creed and then Smallville (all shows I watched religiously). So at first I was immediately in love with Dean. But I like to think that it took Sam's character a bit longer to... come out, so to speak. I think Dean is a bit more open and straight forward, especially in the first season and you quickly feel like you "know him" or "get him". To me, Sam's always been a bit reserved and it took me a while to "connect" with him. I also think that Sam's character has gotten a lot better as the show progresses. I consider myself a total bi-bro girl. You can't have one without the other. It's the brother relationship that makes Supernatural the amazing show that it is. I couldn't even try to pick a favorite out of the two.

As for Jared and Jensen, I often try and describe it as that I love Jensen 100%. But then I love Jared 140%. Both I love and adore completely and beyond anything. But Jared just gets to me that little bit extra. Mostly from watching interview clips and such and he's just so bubbly and sparkly and shiny :P But then Jensen is the completely opposite and he's mysterious and I'm curious about him and his shinyness is beyond adorable and I just want to keep him safe and by that make sure Jared never leaves his side and oh gosh, I'm getting all flaily here just talking about them! Okay I'll stop! I hope I managed to explain myself well enough :P I get kinda rambly when I start talking about the boys ♥

Again, I think you and Katie have hit the nail on the head. Dean's easier to connect to. I get the feling Sam is hiding something, and I don't know why he left his brother and father in the first place... I don't trust him as easily as I do Dean. Yet. ;)

I think you're totally right. But then, I'm only 5 eps into season 1 so far. ;)
