Summary: In which Gerard considers the awkwardness of crushes and lip rings.

Definitely A Thing
Gerard had no idea how to deal with Frank's weird crush on him. They hadn't been together as a band all that long, and he still didn't know the other guy super well, and this thing between them wasn't helping. Frank was only four years younger than him and at their ages that shouldn't matter anymore, but it seemed to Gerard that Frank was really intimidated by him.
Which was totally lame because, yeah, he was the frontman and creator of MCR, but it was a group effort and it's not like Gerard thought he was God or something. And plus, Frank had been the lead singer of his own band before they got together, so he should know that being the guy in the spotlight wasn't all it was cracked up to be.
Still, the guy was nervous almost - awkward and quiet around Gerard in a way that he didn't act around the other guys. Even Mikey had commented on it, teasing Gerard that Frank had a crush on him.
Which totally sucked because now he didn't know how to act around Frank, was conscious of how he was acting, what he was saying, how he was holding his body. And just like in fucking college or even high school, it made him get all tongue-tied and act like a dweeb. And when Gerard noticed he was doing that, or about to, he just clammed up and didn't say anything at all and then everyone thought he was a pretentious dick who thought he was better than everyone else. And he totally wasn't - he was just, well, actually kind of shy.
In fact, Gerard was a bit intimidated by Frank. He was way more punk, with all his tattoos and piercings and the way he dressed. Too cool, and the fact that he was genuine and authentic about it made Gerard feel like a huge poser. He just didn't know what to say. Every time Frank opened his mouth he said something deeply meaningful and awesome and he was really well-read and Gerard felt like a total dork.
So all of that, which was kind of a thing - not a crush, but a thing maybe - made whatever Frank's deal was even harder to resolve. Gerard suspected Frank's sort of crush-thing was only because Gerard was the oldest and the lead singer and kind of in charge, and by default he was supposed to be awesome. But he wasn't; he was just himself and that made him even more nervous because Frank's bubble was going to burst someday. Someday Gerard was going to fuck up, and probably sooner rather than later.
So of course that pretty much put a fucking ticking time bomb on the situation and the very next day it blew.
Gerard had been staring at Frank's mouth, at that bloody lip ring, which fascinated him. His tongue habitually snuck out and flicked it whenever Frank was thinking hard, listening to other people talk, considering his reply. And sometimes he curled his upper teeth over it and pulled it, along with half his bottom lip, into his mouth, in a gesture Gerard was beginning to suspect was nervousness. He'd become fixated with it, watching Frank toy with it, and over the course of the day he was pretty much just staring at the guy, so it wasn't exactly a huge surprise when Frank finally said something.
"So does the lip ring gross you out or something, man? You keep staring," Frank had said.
Gerard had swallowed and cleared his throat. Smooth going, idiot, he'd thought. "Uh, no. It doesn't, um, gross me out," he'd stuttered, cringing at his lame reply.
"No?"
"Unuh," he'd said with a nonchalant shrug. Not even a little bit...
Frank had given him a penetrating look. "Did you ever want one?"
Gerard thought about it for a moment. "Not really, no."
Frank made a hum of agreement and flicked the ring with his tongue. "Did you ever pierce anything? Any hidden treasures we haven't seen yet?" he'd teased with a suggestive eyebrow wiggle and glance at Gerard's crotch.
"No way, man," he'd laughed. "My body is a temple."
Then Frank had made some comment about worshipers and all their fangirls and Gerard had said something about how fucking insane all of that was going to be when they officially went on tour, and then Frank started talking about some amazing temple in India he wanted to visit if they were ever near there and Gerard had no idea what to say to that. Instead he just let Frank talk, asking questions in the right places, and steered the conversation into calmer waters, and that had been that.
At least until the next day, when he was still staring at Frank's fucking lip ring. He could tell it was distracting and pissing the guy off but he couldn't seem to help himself. It was kind of fun even, that irritated little wrinkle Frank's forehead got, and suddenly Gerard realized that his thing was definitely a crush-thing.
That meant that this whole problem was going to be a hell of a lot more fun to resolve. Still, Gerard knew he was being an irritating asshole, and when the two of them were left alone in the studio when everyone else left to go get lunch, he half expected Frank to hit him.
Especially when Frank pushed him against the wall, hard. For a short and skinny guy, he certainly knew how to pin someone.
Frank gave him an inscrutable look. "Fuck this, I can't take it anymore," he said before he leaned in. Right up until the last second, Gerard half expected Frank to bite him or something weird like that.
What he did was kiss the hell out of him.
The feeling of the lip ring, the contrast of firm metal against soft lips, was a first for Gerard. He opened his mouth and tasted it a bit, touched it with his tongue, sucked on it. Frank broke their kiss with a muffled laugh, and wrapped his arms tighter around Gerard, pulling their bodies even closer together in a welcoming kind of way, letting Gerard explore.
And explore he did: after all, how many first kisses are not only a first kiss with someone you like but also a 'first' that you can check off your list: 'first lip-ring'? Frank's groan when Gerard's teeth tugged on the metal was pretty damned rewarding, although he suspected he lost the upper hand when Frank ground their hard-ons together and Gerard gasped out loud.
Finally they broke apart, although not very far, bodies still entangled and breathing hard.
"Someone might come back," Gerard said, glancing toward the wide-open door.
"Yeah. We should do this somewhere else, I guess," Frank answered, looking a little uncertain once the words were out of his mouth.
Gerard leaned forward and gave Frank's ring a flick with his own tongue. "Definitely."
"Come on then – I'll show you my other piercings," Frank said with a cheesy wink. Gerard groaned and rolled his eyes and struggled not to laugh as Frank took him by the hand and pulled him toward the door.
Definitely more than a crush-thing.

The recent pictures I've seem of him didn't star the lipring, that I know for sure. But who knows, maybe he keeps them in at night, I wouldn't know about that *sigh*. x
