I will not read non-con/rape fics.
I will not read any fandom but Harry Potter.
I will not read POTC other than Jack/Will.
I will not read m/m/f threesomes.
I will not read LOTR slash.
I will not read incest unless it's twincest.
I will not read Hobbit sex.
I will not read any MORE non-con/rape fics.
I will not read this Real Person Slash stuff.
I will not read RPS that doesn't include Orlando.
I will not read mpreg.
I will not read Harry Potter RPS.
I will not read any Star Wars slash other than Qui-Gon/Obi-Wan.
I will not read I will not read RPS about people I know paired with people I don't know.
I will not read slash in any universe where I have not read the book/seen the movie/etc.
I will not read crossovers.

I will not read het, unless it's part of a m/m/f threesome.
I will not read femmeslash.
I will not read FPS/RPS crossovers.
I will not read mpreg ever again.
I will not read ANY MORE non-con/rape fics.
*sigh* Four left. Two of which I will probably break eventually.
Oh, Fandoms. You take away what few standards I have, one by one. My lines in the sand get washed away as if they were never there and meant nothing and leave only a lingering sense of shame...
(I can't believe I had to cross yet ANOTHER one off. Stupid SPN fandom - you'll leave me with no morals at all.)

Date: 2008-06-12 01:51 am (UTC)I was laughing from the very first one.
And I have to say, I've never said that I wasn't gonna do something/read something when it comes to fandom. Cause really, that's just a waste of time. Fandom, by the nature of its existence, is insanity. Just accept that anything can happen!

Damn it - not again... ;)
Aren't moral a bitch sometimes?
Date: 2008-06-12 02:22 am (UTC)By my own brain nonetheless, who said, and I quote, "I don't give a fuck what you think is moral. This is hot! It's better writing than most of that het shit (I said most!), and did I mention that it's hot! I don't care that they're both men, I don't care that they're real people, I don't care that this could be qualified as rape, I don't care that they're related. You are going to read this, and you are going to LIKE IT!" I caved pretty quickly.
Word of advice. Do not get involved in the Numb3rs fandom. They will corrupt you faster than you can say boo.

Date: 2008-06-12 05:08 am (UTC)HP really broke 90% of those rules all by itself... That and my insaitiable curiosity.

Just you wait until you get into the Torchwood fandom properly, you'll break standards you never knew you had.

Date: 2008-06-12 10:47 pm (UTC)I love discussions about who reads what (and who won't read what) and why. I mean, I try not to read fics in which women are portrayed only has harpies and shrews, but you don't often see that in the disclaimer. Moral standards on fiction are highly over ratted. What if offensive or inappropriate the way one writer does it could be moving and poignant and an important glimpse into the human condition when handled differently. Or just really smoking hot.

Date: 2008-06-13 01:03 am (UTC)I'll read pretty much anything if it's well written.
Ditto. I break my rules for good authors all the time - even Haleth has written non-con.
Mostly my rules were there to keep me from reading things that squicked me. As the years have passed, not a whole lot squicks me anymore, so long as it stays in the fantasy realm. ;) So the rules have dwindled down to only include things that are active turn offs - and yes, I totally should think of some way to include "I will not read anything with grammar crimes in the first page," or "I will not read misogyny, even if it comes from the boys' mouths," and "I will not read fics where the author has no idea how anal sex works," and so on. I guess those are the unstated rules. ;)
As I was saying in a chat earlier today, the breadth and scope of subjects covered in fanfiction has really widened my perspective. Even when something turns me off, a good writer can make me see how it's a turn on for the character. I'm glad to have that ability, for the most part, and I graciously give credit for it to slash.
