My problem with life is one of tense.

I don't want to "write"; I want to "have written."

I don't want to "find" a job; I want to "have found" a job.

I just need to jump to the future, somehow...

Actually, I was just telling my n00b fic author friend about all the trouble we writers have with tense. She switched back and forth between present and past about six times. So, y'know, it's a literal and metaphorical problem - of COURSE authors have it.

PS I am with you on both counts. If you could tell the John Sheppard in my head to shut up, that would be awesome. Maybe he'll listen to you.

I've done by accident a ton and had betas correct it, and on purpose once (which a reader informed me of, since clearly I'd done it by accident), so yeah.

No telling John to shut up if he wants to talk. Especially if he's teasing Rodney. :)
