Apparently it's been a while since I told myself what I'm up to. I'm in an airport, killing a few hours and not finishing my chapter (yet) so this is as good a time as any to update...

1) Florida is HOT and WET. While this is a good thing in ladyparts during sex, it is a bad thing for AIR, since it needs to be breathed. Blech. OTOH, I had a great time visiting friends and doing a few businessy things and writing. And I was not nibbled on by a gator, so I'm counting the trip as a win.

a) Also, I wrote 7000 words and 4 chapters. Whooop!

2) Other things that are a win - mom does not have cancer (yet/at the moment/we think/again/disclaimers). The short story is she's got some lumps, one which is fatty and fine and one which they are keeping an eye on. Her pain has been from a cracked sternum and bone bruise in her chest. So no chemo, no refusal of chemo, no impending doom. Yay.

3) Job stuff may be picking up. Don't want to say to much, but cross your fingers for me, especially since I have this vague feeling that when I go back to the office tomorrow after six days of being gone, I'm going to get reprimanded and/or fired for something getting lost that I never touched (again). Real jobs suck. I always feel like something about me is fundamentally broken because of my inability to deal with office politics.

4) I am a redneck. But only in the literal sunburned sense. Thank god.

5) Cannot wait to go home to my boy, my dog, my bed, my kitchen, my refrigerator, my tap water, and my fresh fruit and veggies. The clawfoot bathtub was nice, but I will trade it and the lovely queen size bed all to myself for the other stuff most happily.

6) In conclusion = life is pretty damn good. :)

Writing as a job is still one of my goals... maybe editor/writer. Something like that anyway. :)

that would be awesome :) you do a great job when you have your editor's hat on. I've always found your comments very helpful with my writing.

Awww, thank you! I still feel badly about the fairy tale - did you find some help?

aww don't feel bad, family comes first and i know what you were going through so its ok really.

i had a couple of people take a look, Julie Hays she has looked at a few things before.

And i asked someone else who seemed only content to rip the story apart and then proceeded to tell me that my characters were all flat and needed more work. And that they didn't have the time to correct anything so only looked at the first 10 pages.

so i sent it with a minimal beta job on it after julies advice and am now waiting to hear back still. I'm still quite nervous about it as ive never written anything so long for submission thats not had a call as such.

Wait....you mean you don't like it when the air feels like a hot, wet blanket that wraps around you and is so heavy you can feel the weight of the air when you try to breathe...what?!

SEE!! People don't believe me! And then they come here in the summer.

Hey! At least you didn't get to see a hurricane close-up!!

I felt like I was getting asthma or soemthing! Like no matter how deeply I inhaled, i wasn't getting enough air. Blech. Hopefully the next time I come it won't be in the middle of summer... We were talking about January, maybe... ;)

Hehehehe! Well, the new/other job stuff stuff is still up in the air, but I had a good return to work today - nothing went amiss at all - so all that crossing helped. Thank you! :)

And I'll be sending out all the karma I can for your job situation. Good luck with that!

*hug* Thanks! So far, the job thing is looking good, whether I stay or go. Who knew not caring would make everything so much easier to handle? ;)

That reminds me of an old saying that I heard once. "I'm feeling much better since I've abandoned all hope."

Good to hear about your Mom. As far as jobs go, I think they pretty much all suck. I have rarely heard of a good one with a good, reasonable boss, where people enjoy one another's company and feel they are doing something useful and worthwhile. There must be some out there like that.

I am glad things are good with your Mom. And that you've stopped to count your blessings.
I'm at work now so my blessings are off (work, daycare, daycamp) having their own days. But there will be swimming (heat wave here in Montreal) and cuddling later.
One of the things that helps me when work is a pain is to remember that the job isn't my life, it's the work I do to support my happy life with my family. Hope that helps.
Hugs

It's amazing how much counting your blessings makes everything better, truly. And you are so right - rememebring that it's just money, it's not my reason for being on this planet, helps a lot. Somedays that's easier to rememebr than others. ;)
