Thank you for this. I had a horrible experience over someone who wrote a story and I was reading it and she abandoned it. I wrote her and asked her if she was going to finish and she went off on me, telling me that she wrote for herself and not for anyone else and if she didn't want to finish it, she damn well wouldn't. I felt so bad, I nearly left LJ and a fandom I loved. I was depressed for weeks. So, no more WIP's for me, needless to say. As far as having a life, I'm afraid that at that time, LJ and the fandom WAS my life. Sad but true. I've since gotten over it and have a very nice life. But these reminded me of that horrid time in my life.
Oh, and I love the last pic of White Collar. At very first, I thought Peter and Neil were holding hands! Wouldn't that have been sexy!
Oh honey. *hug* We all have those bad interactions, and I'm sorry that one hit you hard. But don't let one idiot ruin your party - I'm glad you stayed.
WIPs - seirously, my life is too short and I've been burned too many times. I don't trust people to finish, so now I don't start until the last bit goes up, with exactly TWO exceptions, who I know will finish.
I'm hoping this is the seaosn Neal and Peter do it. ;)
It was the best of things. It was the worst of things.
Reading along with a fic as it is being written can be utterly brilliant.
On the other hand I've had many experiences where it just dribbled off........... Not so much fun, if you've been loving it and showing the author the love. :(
In new fandoms I frequently wander into comms and find multi-part fics (Part 31/?) and I just walk away slowly. Sad.
When someone recs one of your fanfics on the other hand, I think the correct response is, "Thank you." Anything else and I you need to refer to the fingerpuppets! Lordy!
There is something exciting about reading along with a WIP... until the author disappears into the void, leaving an uncompleted story behind. I thik the number/? is a warning sign for me - if you don't know how many chapers there are going to be, you haven't planned things out and you might not finish. I'll wait until you have. ;)
Agreed - I try to thank everyone and reply to every comment. I admit to a bit of snark occasionally, but then that goes hand-in-hand with having some people's praise matter more than others - both BNFs and good friends, whose work you respect.
(Mental snark - btw. I do try not to be rude the people taking the time to praise me!)
I've been guilty of the WIPs that stay WIPs so much that I refuse to start posting anything until I have finished. Which normally means I don't post anything lol. But I have just started fanficing again and am excited :D
I agree - I generally don't start posting until I've got the thing drafted or at least plotted out chapter by chapter. It's good incentive to clarify to myself where the story is going and how it will get there. :)
I think the WC pic was my favorite, as I have to be true to my fangirl heart, but tbth, the blowjob bit... is true, in my head at least... No more info for you today! *goes and hides*
