Name five qualities you always find attractive in fictional characters

1. Intelligence. Especially obscure historical knowledge, and the ability to speak/read multiple languages. Makes me weak in the knees.

2. Height. In fiction, I want someone tall and lean. Like Sherlock Holmes. In real life, too tall = too hard to kiss.

3. Sense of humor. If a character is no fun at all, I'm not that interested in them. Sarcasm gets extra bonus points, especially if it's dryly witty rather than outright cruel.

4. Likes nature and likes to do something in it - gardening, brisk walks in the country, swimming in the ocean, anything like that.

5. As in film (and real life!), swordplay in books gets me all hot and bothered.

Huh. I think I need a Holmes/Russell fix. ;)

What five unexplained mysteries or questions raised by canon do you most wish you knew the answer to?

1. Where was Remus Lupin during the first 11 years of Harry's life, and if he was such good friends with James and Lily, why the fuck wasn't he around to help Harry?

2. Why didn't anyone just tell Qui-Gon "No fucking way" about Anakin? Some rules are there for a reason.

3. Will Turner - virgin before his wedding night or not?

4. If you can Transfigure X into Y, why can't you transfigure stuff into food or clothes? Why the heck is Lupin so thin and shabbily dressed if he's any good at Charms and Transfiguration?

5. Where do all the kids who don't go to Hogwarts go to school? The ones who end up running shops and stuff. Or does *everybody* go to Hogwarts? Hagrid makes it sound all elitist, but then... WTF?

(Ok, I'm a little focused on one fandom - sue me.)

And in other news...

So last night I finally got around to watching "The History Boys" and had some unusual reactions. IMO, it was a kind of crappy film, not very focused and I didn't really give a fuck about any of the characters or whether they got into their dreamschools or not. It doesn't take a lot to get me excited about British school boys and/or an academic theme, so that's saying something.

But it was thought provoking, in the sense that it provoked me to think things:

Thing 1 - depressing )

Thing 2 - sex stuff - TMI alert )

OK, I'm finished babbling now. I don't recommend the movie, btw. I think my thinky thoughts (TM [livejournal.com profile] telesilla) were far more interesting than the movie itself, which I almost dozed off during. And if I'm dozing off to cute gayboy angst, you know it's bad.
