I think there is something about making icons that I just fundamentally don't understand. I see a picture. I think of words I'd like to put on it. I reduce it to 100x100 and it's crap and I can't see it at all.

Well, for your viewing pleasure (and because now I can't even make text work and I really MUST stop playing with PS since I have a billion other things to do), here is what I wanted to do:

Find the picture you like, reduce it to 100x100 icons, THEN put the words on. (The picutres reduce fine, but the text does not - at least that's what I've found... or another way to put it - type the words in the actual point size you're going to use on the icon.)

I think the problem is that the pictures I like are too big/long - full torso or full length. By the time they're 100x100, you can't see the face at all. But yes, putting the words on *after* would be smart, too. :)

Yeah, the big pics are tough to work with. Full-length views are almost impossible. It's best to choose a favourite body part (see above) *giggles*

Young Adam, but I'm convinced it's really Grimes coming in after working in the garden. There's McKnight, sitting in his nice comfy chair, watching Grimes strip off so he won't track peat moss through the house.

I'm not an icon expert, but if you care to check out a few icon making comms, you might be able to pick up a few tips that'll help. They helped me a lot! :)

umm, let's see. Try out icon_tutorial for starters. They have a massive memories section where there are tips and tutorials for all kinds of styles. And, as you progress, you'll definitely starting finding out things on your own. :)

I was going to ask if Haleth had seen the Ewan pic, because I figured she'd go nuts, but I guess the answer is yes! It seems to me that the secret with icons is the same as the secret with logos - you have to find a very simple way to express something complex. Those are great pics, but, by the time you reduce them, just about illegible.
