overwhelmed & indecisive
Sep. 30th, 2005 04:13 pmWork has just been HELL this week and I've been so busy and burned out that I can barely get through my day, let alone do much that's fun like email and LJ. So I haven't been reading much, and I'm not sure that's going to change. Like many people, I'm pulling back, trying to get my head and life organized, focused on what's really important in the long run. Like a job that will make me happy. Slashy stuff was feeling like a drain of energy and a way to waste time/procrastinate, so I'm simplifying. I'll be reading as I can, but feel free to let me know if I miss something significant.
In other news, I think part of the reason I've been so burned out and generally out of touch with my muses is because I haven't been partaking of all that delicious source material. So I've added a ton of movies to my NetFlix queue.
The list so far:
(Black Hawk Down is already in my possession,
heartofslash)
Donnie Darko
The Prophecy
Down With Love
Little Voice
The Indian Runner
Big Fish
Bedrooms and Hallways
Lady Chatterly
Hidalgo -- saw in the theater
Ned Kelly -- saw in the theater
Stealing Beauty
SW - ep 1 -- saw in the theater
SW - ep 2 -- saw in the theater
Any additions/suggestions?
Further, we have the list of movies I own but have not watched in 1 to 5 years:
FOTR
TTT
ROTK
POTC
Velvet Goldmine
Calcium Kid
Midsomer Murders (never watched)
ETA: Oops, should have noted the NEtFlix that I have seen and just have down to see *again*.

Date: 2005-10-01 12:50 am (UTC)ok...here goes with the films...and to be completely honest...I only watched some of these cause my boys were in it...
Donnie Darko - interesting...better than the average teen flick...
The Indian Runner - Viggo's Indian Runner? Ummm...hated it. I'm sure there was some deep message in there, but I missed it. Never really figured out why Viggo's character did all the things he did...
Lady Chatterly - the one Bean is in? Hated it...I stopped paying attention pretty early on...Sean's character was a whiny punk, from what I saw...and the sex that I saw was fairly lame...
Hidalgo - loved it! Viggo in leather pants! I liked the story too. Some pretty funny parts too.
Ned Kelly - Loved it! Scruffy Orlando...scruffy man whore Orlando...and in a tub. Heath has a really bad wig and beard. And no real chemistry between him and Naomi Watts, which is sad since they were knocking boots during filming...Sad overall, not very uplifting...but a good "the criminals are the good guys" Robin Hood kind of way...
SW - ep 1 - by far the worst in the series. The kid who played young Anakin irritated the living crap out of me. But being a SW devotee...its interesting to see how it all started. And ain't nothing wrong with seeing Ewan and Liam
SW - ep 2 - a little better than episode 1...love story is lame...George Lucas really needs to let someone else write those...but still more back story...
FOTR, TTT, ROTK - watch them all the time...although TTT is my favorite
POTC - always good for a laugh, and Wet Will
Calcium Kid - probably my favorite Orlando movie. its funny and cute. JImmy reminds me of a bunny...adorable, want to pet him, and a little dense. Plus...Orlando wanking under the covers is always a good thing. Might want to put on the subtitles though, unless you are very good at the London accent.
Midsomer Murders - oohh...filthy Peter Drinkwater..loved him, loved seeing Orlando play a bad guy...the 'mystery' however...pfft...I was only watching Orlando...I'm shallow like that sometimes.
hope this helps...

Date: 2005-10-02 03:14 am (UTC)CK is my favorite, too. Thanks for the notes on the rest, especially the warning about Indian Runner. I think I'll put that one off for a while.

Date: 2005-10-01 01:20 am (UTC)The Prophecy, Down with Love, Little Voice haven't seen
The Indian Runner incredibly depressing, but Viggo is stunningly attractive in it. I only watch it for the visuals, and I never watch the end.
Big Fish, haven't seen
Bedrooms and Hallways, one of my favourite good-feeling movies.
Lady Chatterly, oh yeah, someone made a four hour miniseries PWP. Sean's hot, the bird is annoying and whiney.
Hidalgo, Disney. But it has Viggo in it.
Ned Kelly, I really enjoyed it. Orlando's accent is spot on (I used to be married to an Irish/Australian), and it looks like he can act in it.
Stealing Beauty, haven't seen.
SW ep 1, I watch the fannish edit of it by choice. Revenge of the Force I think it's called.
SW ep2, haven't seen for a long time, want to watch it again. I seem to recall it didn't suck as much as ep 1.
I've only seen Velvet Goldmine once, but I really enjoyed it.
And I know what you mean about work. Business at

Date: 2005-10-01 01:39 am (UTC)You're right, though. you ned to watch some good movies!
Donnie Darko - liked it, but it was kinda creepy in parts. I have issues with killer bunnies.
The Prophecy - Fucking brilliant. Viggo is the best devil ever, Christopher Walken rocks my whole world. Elias Koteas... mmmm, one of Canada's national treasures. Virginia Madsen is utterly snoggable. Eric Stolz kicks ass. Funny and smart and fun and over the top when it needs to be.
Down With Love - Oh, lord, do I love this movie. And it isn't just for Ewan. (Although Ewan is fucking perfect in it.) If you ever laughed your ass off watching a Rock Hudson/Doris Day flick, you'll love this. Tony Randall even has a part! And David Hyde Pierce is brilliant in the Tony-Randall-role. And make sure you watch the credits. The final song is great.
Little Voice - *hangs head in shame* have not managed to see this yet. Tell me what I'm missing.
The Indian Runner - Own it but have never watched. Isn't that shameful? My best friend said it's disturbing. I'm waiting until I'm ready to be disturbed.
Big Fish - Can't shout the Ewan-love loud enough. My favourite Tim Burton movie. It's clever and funny and has a great script and make sure to watch the extra with Ewan talking about his character - it's enough to make you squee your head off, his honest-to-goodness enthusiasm and joy about acting and making movies and getting to play the hero. (He tells a story about his 'wee' daughter, and he's such a lovely daddy!) Oh, and he's in army gear for part of it. *melts*
Hidalgo - Meh. Wouldn't bother with a second viewing.
Ned Kelly - It's good. It's rough to watch at points, but it's a decent flick.
SW - ep 1 - You haven't seen it? You must. The way they fight. The way Ewan works those Padawan hips. The way Obi-Wan says "yes, Master". The way Qui-Gon takes control of everything. The way Qui-Gon smiles. The way Qui-Gon IS the perfect Jedi Master.
SW - ep 2 - Well, this one you watch for the Ewan. I suspect he was half-drunk for a lot of it. He's in a whole other movie - everyone else is in a special effects laden, PG-rated George Lucas Jedi-are-virgin movie. Ewan oozes sex every time he swings those hips or smiles at someone. He gets totally wet, which is always good. And he gets captured by the evil Count Dooku and is suspended in this sort of Force prison thing and gets chained to a rock in a most seductive fashion... I'm sure you've seen the caps. The only thing to say about Obi-Wan is "tie him to the bed, I'll be right there..."
You haven't watched Velvet Goldmine in at least a year? Jesus, girl, I've only owned my copy a couple of months and I've already watched it at least a dozen times...
Calcium Kid I would like to see.
Orlando's episode of Midsomer Murders isn't the best, but it has it's charms. Naked Orli being foremost among them. The "Best Village" competition is pretty amusing.
Take a break. Watch some movies. Get a job you love. Don't stop writing. Don't stop reading. And for goodness sake, don't stop being a perv!
*licks the back of your knees, just because it sounds like fun*

Date: 2005-10-02 03:07 am (UTC)I think I'll wait on Indian Runner, but will probably leave the others in that order.
I have seen HIdalgo and Ned Kelley, as well as the SW movies. One opening night. At midnight. Which meant I fell asleep (almost) during both of them. Need to rent and watch with fast-forward abilities. :)
Hidalgo I *need* to rent so I can finish my post-race story that I started. The week after it came out. *sigh* Maybe I should run the draft past you first to see if it's worth it...
CK is hands-down (your pants) my favorite Orlando movie. It's actually good. And funny. And he acts. (Not just re-acts, like Will Turner.)
*hug* not going anywhere, but yes. More reading/writing/watching/perving. Definitely not going to stop any of that. ;)
*melts* How did you know that was one of my hot-spots?

Date: 2005-10-01 05:59 am (UTC)Little Voice--saw it a bazillion years ago. I don't remember anything, except I loved it.
Indian Runner--naked Viggo. Need I say more? haha. Actually, a really good movie. His character's a bastard though, and when you here he's a method actor, you really really hope he didn't do anything like that to prep for the role. Though he wouldn't do that...
Big Fish--Tim Burton and Ewan McGregor. A totally fun movie. Complete fantasy land. Like I said, very fun.
Star Wars--I'm ashamed to admit I've never seen a single star wars movie.
Hidalgo & Ned Kelly--own both of them. Love both of them, and would be even better if I could get past the hawtness of it all.

No LotR for a year?! How do you live!?!
Or PotC?! For shame ;)
Haven't seen Velvet Goldmine. But I want to, being a huge glam rock fan.
Calcium Kid, haven't seen. Even though I want to.
Midsomer Murders, I have the clip of Orli semi-naked, and want to see more ;)

Date: 2005-10-03 01:16 pm (UTC)She is found out, and because the King's mistress likes the idea he bans men from playing female roles. Billy's character is lost and feels worthless, the only way he can act is to take on a man's role, but everything he's ever trained for makes his motions too feminine and he heads into a downward spiral.
Claire's character discovers that she can't actually act at all, and they end up finding each other, in order to find themselves.
It's actually a lot better than I describe, and there are slash scenes too. Definitely give it a try, I don't know of anybody who's seen it that was disappointed. Even my dad liked it. :-) Convincing?

Watched that movie, but I have to admit I did not understand it a bit. Am therefore way less intrigued by it than all the people who apparently understood it. ^^; Would not be my first choice.
The Prophecy
Watched that a long time ago. Weird movie! The end, however, the few minutes Viggo is actually in it. GUH! So hawt. Apart from that it's kinda like Daylight tho, only worth for the little bit of Viggo in it.
Down with Love
Catcher Block!! heh. I like that movie. It's got some great Ewan in it, and it's fun. I really liked how it all turned out. It's not the greatest or deepest movie of all times, but a nice, funny comedy.
The Indian Runner
It's been a bit since I saw that movie, too. Viggo, tho. OMFG! He's so damn hot in it. I don't remember anything of the plot, but the pictures were sure nice to look at! You should definitely see it.
SW Ep 1
That one needs to be way up there on the list! I mean, come on! Qui/Obi are my one and only SW OTP - get inspired and write me some kinky Padawan fic, eh? *nudges* ;) I like that movie best of the 'new' triology, the other two are crap. Ewan is still in them, but I don't like Hayden. Ewan/Liam on the other hand... *rrrrr*!
POTC, FotR, VG
All should be up there to be watched again, too! I can never get enough of POTC, FotR (it's my fave of the three, but of couse TTT and RotK go just along with it) is always good, and VG should have enough slashy Obi/Batman action in it that you should get more than inspired. :>
I haven't seen the other or don't have much to say about them, tho Big Fish sounded like an awesome movie, I've only seen bits of it. So definitely go see that one and tell me if I need to get it. :)
Hope that helped?
