Cool shade dappled Remus' fair skin. Beside him, Sirius was sprawled out in full sun, working on turning brown. It was one of the first truly hot weekends of the summer and they were out taking advantage of it.

"One week til we're Seventh years," Remus observed in a languid voice, as he tossed his book aside, giving up on studying outdoors.

Sirius nodded, his attention fixed on the next hillock over, where James was sitting with Lily, a crowd of onlookers around them. He made a disgusted noise.

"What?" Remus looked up and saw James Transfiguring a large rock into a niffler, which was bright blue for some reason. It was cute, but then immediately lunged for her necklace and, as often happened when James was trying to impress Lily, all Hell broke loose.

Remus chuckled. "Now Sirius, James is happy. Happier than I've ever seen him," he said, turning back to his companion and letting the other students sort things out with the niffler.

Sirius sighed. "Yeah. I think our Jamie's in love. Not just looking for a shag." He gave Remus a bleak look, full of abandonment and desolation.

"Don't worry, I'm sure you'll fall in love one day, too," Remus laughed, patting him on the arm.

Sirius held his eyes for long enough that it grew uncomfortable. "Yeah. But what about you? You haven't even had a decent shag since that Archibald Fitch bloke."

Remus shrugged. "It'll happen when it happens. I'm not holding my breath; you know how hard it is for me."

Sirius nodded. "Yeah. Bet you haven't even had a kiss, let alone a decent snog, all spring..."

"I can take care of myself," Remus said, sounding testy.

Sirius gave him a meaningful look.

Remus rolled his eyes, leaned over, grabbed Sirius by the hair, and planted a wet kiss on his lips. "There - are you happy?"

A strange expression clouded Sirius' face. He clutched Remus by the arm before he could move away and pulled him close. Their lips met again, slowly and purposefully this time, lingering, exploring.

Sirius laughed at the gobsmacked expression on Remus' face. "I'm happy now."
