You know when you're making jelly and there's all that stuff on the top that you skim off? The "impurities"/fruit solids? Is there anything I can do with that stuff? It looks horrid but tastes just like the jelly. Can I eat it? Cook with it?

Anyone?

Also, is there anyone else on my flist who both reads/writes/draws NC-17 slash *and* makes soap/jam/jelly/bread/has other 1800s-type homemaker skills?

I feel like there should be a support group for my split personality.

And yes, I'm done spamming you for the day. I have jam to make and reiki to learn. and possibly some smut to write...

I always let the kids have the skin to eat. They used to put it onto bread as a treat. But it's very edible, it just makes the jelly cloudy and not as smooth.

Honey, if you find the support group, point me in the direction! My personalities would love to join yours. Respectable PTA mom meets tattooed biker babe, with smut connisseur and expert cook/baker thrown in for good measure. As a matter of fact, in my Yahoo profile under hobbies I listed baking and bondage. Go figure - kindred spirits unite!!

Have done the soap thing, and candles! Never tried jam but homemade fudge was a success and I'm told I make a mean Christmas Cake. I can also *whispers* crochet and do macrame *blushes* Have not yet found a way to combine it all with slash though.

We need a slashy_homemakers community!

P.S. Happy Birthday!!! *hugs and kisses*

When I lived in Chicago I had a huge garden, I'd can enough fruit and vegetables to last us all winter. Things don't grow quite as well in Dallas, but I still make jams every once in a while if I pass a good-looking roadside stand. Fresh peaches... once I get my husband to peel them (I can't stand touching the fuzz - yeah, I'm weird!) there's nothing better. And I mark the coming of the holidays by when it's time to start stocking up on supplies for baking.

I bake bread. Kick ass bread. And I make soups from scratch. And you saw the Tank Girl jacket I embroidered (at the PTA meeting *snerk*).

We shall rule the world with our multi-talented, mutlitasking split personalities!

Yay! Another baker!

Best bread I make is with leftovers - you know, leftover steamed rice or leftover oatmeal or leftover mashed potatoes, whatever is hanging around the fridge. Mmm. Moist and chewy.

Hot tip - do NOT attempt to knead bread when you've got a two-day old tattoo on your inner wrist. *headdesk*

Au contraire - the texture of the rising dough... think about the possibilities.

See, now I'm just having weird thoughts about bread dough on erections and it's more odd than arousing...

I think I need mroe tea...

oooh yum. i have garden envy - i get most of my produce at the farmer's market, which is good but not as satisfying as growing it yourself.

'Kay, now that's not gonna help me empty out the zombie-bunnies folder, now is it. Although if it's a new bunny, maybe that doesn't count? :P

Usually after I've done a really long or particularly taxing story I start baking to soothe my brain and just generally relax and recover my wits. Kind of like the way Bean finishes an acting gig, and then goes and messes around in his garden. Of course, I picture him doing that naked, but you see what I'm getting at...

Hehehehehehe!

I think I do that, too, but never really noticed it until you pointed it out -- I write, then I do something with my hands that's less brain-intensive. Cool. :)

And no, new bunnies don't count. *g*
