help please!
Apr. 16th, 2007 03:45 pmI need your help! I need at least one book (as in, in print) to rec for gay male erotica.
I am embarrassed to admit that I only have one, "The Ultimate Gay Erotica" but I only like two of the stories in it.
What do you like/have you read/would you recommend to other people? The Best Gay Erotica series? The Friction series? Best of the Best Gay Erotica? Best American Gay Fiction?
HELP!!!
ETA: My bad - I said "book" and I meant "anthology." Anyone have any anthology recs?

Date: 2007-04-16 11:53 pm (UTC)i'd personally highly recomend Dark Rider - Jack Gordon from Idol press.
Synopsis
When Robert and his flatmate Angelo travel to a remote Scottish island, they anticipate a relaxing holiday in the cottage Robert has inherited. But all is not what it seems. The island is home to a secret orgiastic cult, who seem strangely interested in Angelo, the coffee-skinned Argentinian.
this was the first ever Gay male erotic book i ever bought and read and it's fab.
you can buy this book via amazon Dark Rider
for me i tend to read novels as opposed to anthologies as i tend not to like most of the stories in the anthologies. That and i go for the BDSM/ kink type stories anyways
To Serve Two Masters - by Gordon Neale also by Idol books is avery good.
Market day is a special time on the island of Ilyria. The goods to be sold are men - men who have learned to accept their lives of slavery. Rock is one of these captive 'livestock', his only hope being that the beautiful young stranger, Dorian, will be the one who buys him. Even if he is lucky, Rock knows his life will not be easy. Dorian's adoptive brother Carlos, is as cruel as he is handsome and Rock understands that, should one buy him, he will be owned by both.
Fine homoerotic fiction with lashings of SM!
i also own but haven't yet read
Chains of Deceit (Idol) by Paul C. Alexander
Nathan Dexter's life is turned around when he meets a young student called Scott - someone who offers him the relationship for which he's been searching. then Nathan's best friend becomes the victim of a slavery ring, rumoured to be operating out of London's leather scene. Nathan and Scott go undercover and, as their investigations take them from the leather bars of London and Amsterdam to the backrooms of New York, it becomes clear that they can trust no one, not even each other. Hot horny erotic fiction!
ive got more upstairs but can't remember titles off hand but if you need more i can find them out and let you know tomorrow.
i also tend to read alot of het bondage/kink novels aswell by various different publishers such as Chimera, Nexus(which are fab), and lots of others which i can't think of off the top of my head. because i have at least 30 or so of these.

Date: 2007-04-17 04:18 pm (UTC)For the class, I was looking for anthology recs but, like you, I don't read many of them since I don't tend to like the majority of the stories.
Kink collections - have you read "Macho Sluts" by Pat Califia? I love that one...

As a Kiwi, I suspect I'm skewed as to what fulfills you needs here.

Date: 2007-04-17 04:23 pm (UTC)For the class, I was mostly looking for anthologies, but I wasn't clear at all in my post. Oops!
Do let me know if you have any of those to rec!

Date: 2007-04-21 08:21 am (UTC)Because books are so expensive here (and I no longer work in a bookstore), I need more of a hook than the classification to entice me (to me, Gay literature is a classification, whereas Gay Murder/Mystery is genre ... does that make sense?). I am hoping for some rec's I can check out from this request of yours :)

Date: 2007-04-18 08:41 pm (UTC)Well, some of the best anthologies I’ve read are:
“Best Gay Erotica, 2007” edited by Richard Labonté. (The very best story in here is one without any words, but is told by pictures drawn by the very talented Drubskin and it’s called “The Welcome Home Fuck” – it’s quite amazing!)
“Hot Gay Erotica”, edited by Richard Labonté.
“Rebell Yell” and “Rebell Yell 2” edited by Jay Quinn.
“Ultimate Gay Erotica 2006” edited by Jesse Grant.
“Pleasures of the Flesh” by John Patrick.
“Cocktales” and “Cocksure”, both edited by Bob Vickery.
“Fratsex”, edited by Greg Herren.
I’m not sure how ‘deep’ you want to go, but I also enjoyed “Daddy’s Boyz” edited by Bob Condron – but as the title suggests, it’s a bit specialised. There are, however, one or two quite outstanding (and very sympathetic) stories in there.
If you want some book recommendations, I would go for:
“The Front Runner” by Patricia Nell Warren. (There are also sequels, “Harlan’s Race” and “Billy’s Boy”, but TFR stands very well alone). It’s a truly most inspirational book.
“Metes and Bounds” by Jay Quinn.
“Back Where He Started” by Jay Quinn.
In fact, anything by Patricia Nell Warren, Jay Quinn, Greg Herren (his Scott Bradley detective novels are wonderful!) or Michael Thomas Ford is highly to be recommended.
Hope that helps!
*hugs*
