OK, I need help (in more ways than one - yeah, yeah, yeah). Anyway. I tried watching these two shows. It wasn't that I didn't like them, but that they scared the pee out of me. Torchwood got all X-Files horror-moviesh and Supernatural Ep#1 gave me nightmares for a week, seeing dead girls on the ceiling.

But. The boys, they are hot. And the smut, it is canon. Respectively.

What should I do?????????

No, I don't *need* another fandom. But I do need a 1-hour break in the middle of my workday, not in front of the computer, and why not watch hot men perhaps being sexual, right?

So if you're a fan, vote and tell me why I should watch your show.

(If you wouldn't mind telling me which eps are too scary to let your 13 year old daughter/friend/sister watch, too, that would be awesome - I'll just skip those ones.)

I'll be honest...I've never seen Supernatural. I probably should, but my gosh, where will I find the time for another fandom? My poor Severus feels all neglected! Why? Because Dr. Who and Torchwood are eating my brain! So yes, my vote goes to Torchwood. Captain Jack, you know. The HAND-HOLDING. Guh!

I'm not really looking for another fandom, just a show to watch. I have a lot of fics I want to finish - mostly HP.

I say you should watch Torchwood simply because Supernatural has too many fans as it is. Besides, on Torchwood you not only get canon!smut you also get hot British accents. ;)

It doesn't really get too scary either. Only a few episodes are like super creepy. Mostly it's just alien hunting with some sex thrown in. Well, sometimes lots of sex. Also season 2 is starting in just over a week and there promises to be more gay sex. Hell the first episode alone has John Barrowman and James Marsden going at it. If that's not a promising start I don't know what is.

The accent-porn argument does have a lot of weight. ;) seems like both are very popular - I might have to watch them both.

I think I just saw too many programs that scared me - esp the cannibalism one - ick. I don't care about gore but torture and suspense kill me. Maybe it will worry me less if I watch mid-day.

I haven't seen Torchwood, but I still have to vote for Supernatural. Sit down and watch several episodes (it helps to have the lights on or someone else with you). Once you get into it, you'll end up laughing half of each episode, which makes the scary not so bad. These boys are friggin' hilarious....except for when they are making you cry. But don't worry, you aren't there yet.

The episode that scared me the most was Bloody Mary, which is episode #5 in the first season (I think, might've been 6). But that was a legend that never scared me before this, so maybe it was just that catching up to me...other people I've talked to haven't been that scared by it.

And those boys are really, REALLY good looking. I have a theory. Originally, SPN was intended for young men (Buffy-style), but their actual audience is mostly adult women. I think that it's just scary enough to freak you out, but usually not very gory (which is what I don't like...eww, blood). And in the end, very sexy men save the day. But because the entire purpose of what they do is to help the helpless, they are kinda safe. Like it's okay to trust these guys.

Anyway, I just got into it this past summer and man! It has changed my tv watching habits!

I'm amused at how devoted all the fans are. :) So far it's nearly tied, so I might have to watch both. I appreciate the notes for the scary ones - I'll make a note to watch those ones when my husband is home.

They *are* shockingly hot. That's why I'm willing to go outside my comfort zone - after all, some eps of Buffy used to scare me. I don't do well with freak-out or suspense. But for those hotties, I'll try!

OK, Supernatural Season 3, there are some pretty squicky parts in Bad Day at Black Rock (ep 3), Bedtime Stories (ep 5) and A Very Supernatural Christmas (ep 8). Other than that, this season has been pretty tame compared to the first 2.

I only saw the first 2 eps. #1 scared the pants off of me but #2 was no big deal. I appreciate the warnings for specific eps though - that means I know which eps to only semi-watch, and to make sure my sweetie is home. :)

It's fantastic. It's definitely become one of my new obsessions. I started watching for the smut, but totally got drawn in by the characters and the situations they get in. Who they are, what makes them tick, who they empathize with... Soooo good.

To be honest Supernatural has the better writing (at least as far as s1 of Torchwood goes) on the other hand TW is cracked out and has boyboy kissing, girlgirl kissing and boygirl kissing. And aliens :p

I'm glad to hear someone say TW1 wasn't brilliant - I watched about 4 eps and just wasn't drawn into the characters. I was only reconsidering because I'm a slut and the boys are hot!

Thanks for the warnings - it really does help if I'm mentally prepared and know what I'm getting into. (Countrycide was the one that made me stop watching TW.) It's good to know what to look out for.

I've watched both and enjoyed them tremendously, but I have to say Torchwood has a special place for me - John Barrowman grew up in my hometown, so I always have to pimp him when I can.

On the other hand, if you want something completely different, you might want to give Life on Mars a chance. I thought the name was stupid, but kept seeing Ausmac posting about it so gave it a shot. S1 and S2 are complete, at only 8 episodes each, and there won't be anymore. It's really strange plot but I found myself falling in love with it.

Like I need one more fandom! (Lifein1973 is the comm - lots of slash over there for Gene/Sam)

I vote for Supernatural. But it is probably kind of scary, though I have to say that the only episode so far that had me crawling the ceiling was "Croatoan"

Really, Croatoan? That's funny cause I don't remember anything scary from that episode. hehe. I think in my opinion, it was Asylum from season 1 that scared me the most. I remember freaking out over that one!! When I think about it... I think the show is getting less scary with each season. hmn...

I've never seen Supernatural so can't comment on that. And I've only just started watching the first season of Torchwood so can't speak that intelligently about it either. But it's like everybody's bi on that show so how can you go wrong?

Duuuuude! SUPERNATURAL, is brilliant, join us, jooooooin us ;-)

I watch TW too, but I don't do the fandom. In my (slightly biased) opinion, I think as a show Supernatural is better, also the actors are smokin' hot and the characters' relationship is delicious.

OTOH, TW is a pretty good show, everyone in TW is (or at least is potentially) doing everybody else, and John Barrowman is lovely in all ways. But. IMHO the flip side of that is all the relationships on the show are necessarily less all consuming than S&D's, because it's simply more difuse with more characters... however, that leaves a lot of scope for fanfic to do the work.

So I vote supernatural... but you should really do both ;-)

Torchwood -- the smut is CANON!!!!

Exactly, the smut is canon. Seriously, where's the fun in that?! For me that's exactly a big part of why I never liked Queer as Folk, and especially why I couldn't read the slash. It's no fun when it's canon. Part of the fun is the whole taboo of it! Feeling like you are a part of some big secret that only a few people are lucky enough to be aware of. That's how I feel about Supernatural :D And it's not all about Sam and Dean. There's also Jared and Jensen and if you just check out a handful of interviews with them on youtube, I'm sure you'll fall in love with them right away like everyone else did :P They are the ultimate BFF and their love is purer than Viggo and Orlando ever were ;-) hehe. So yeah, my vote is 100% Supernatural!!!!!

As for Supernatural being scary. I can tell you that the pilot is actually the scariest episode out of them all!! Once you get past that episode, it gets much much easier :P Also, what helps me is that it's a TV show. And they can only show certain things up to a point because all ages have access to the show. That thought calms me down. And also, the girls on the ceiling osm
t all that scary after you've seen it a few times ;-)

I'll tell you which episodes I found a little bit scary from the first season of Supernatural.

The Pilot of course, then there is 105 Bloody Mary, 107 Hookman, 109 Home, 110 Asylum, 111 Scarecrow. And yeah, that's it really. Just six episodes out of 22. That's not so bad :P And usually it's only the opening scene in each episode that is scary. Just watch the eps with the lights on ;-)

Well, it's not like I'm surprised at your vote. *g* You're one of the reasons I even considered SPN, but then I got seriously freaked by ep #1.

It's true that canon smut is a turn off for me, although I'm *hoping* to watch the show (or both) and NOT get into fandom - I just don't have time for that. I loved QaF the show (UK) but no, I was never tempted by fandom - just like with Velvet Goldmine.

It's nice to hear what eps are scary - and to hear you say that you too were freaked by #1. #2 was no big deal, so I hope that the rest won't be as big of a deal either. Also, I'll make sure I'm not home alone. ;)

Heeheee! "The smut is canon" - TW's characters are (as far as I know) all at least bisexual and all messing around with each other. Apparently there's some fairly hot sex scenes on the show, too.

I have no idea what Torchwood even is about but I love SPN so I'll say SUPERNATURAL FTW! Because of the brotherly love, Dean's lame jokes and Sam's bitchface, the awesome Monsters of the Week, the writers are all geeks, Eric Kripke is a fanboy and because the Winchesters are the hottest family ever.

What scared you so much about the episode, the gore or the suspense?

I'm usually not scared by the monster stuff so I can't tell you which episodes to avoid, but maybe you could start with watching the more funny ones like Hell House (117), Tall Tales (215), Hollywood Babylon (218), Bad Day at Black Rock (303). What Is and What Should Never Be (220) is another favourite, not funny but not that creepy either.

I've never watched Supernatural but came to Torchwood because it was an offshoot of Dr Who and starred the delectable Captain Jack Harkness.

The men are H-O-T and it's not *really* that scary. (Unless you're a big girly wuss, lol)

I *am* a big girly wuss. I couldn't watch x-files because it was too scary, I never ever watch horror movies, too much violence or rape or torture/mutilation in a movie freaks me out, and even some episodes of Buffy were scary for me. So mostly I avoid shows/movies that push my buttons.

But it's John Borrowman! And gayness! And other things I love! I will just have to try it and see how it goes. ;)

i've voted on the Torchwood front, but thats purely because the slash is canon. But because Jack/Ianto is just so hot, there is also the angst of their relationship. The fact that both John and Gareth are just hot also. Oh and there's also the jack/real capatin jack kiss.

Oh and series two with james Marsters and John kissing and being all rough with one another, plus the potention of more jack/ianto action aswell.

Supernatural i also love, series one most of them scared the crap out of me. series 2 i didnt like as much. but series 3 aparently is more scary again according to my dad.
