Thank you for the adorable spiders! Those are the kind I can handle, that don't give me the heebie-jeebies. :)

Feel like I should update more often, but I'm not in much of a happy bouncy fannish mood. I'm pretty much only reading SGA these days, as comfort, when I have time. Reading submissions for Dreamspinner has really impacted how much time I have for fandom reading... Not that that's bad, just different. But I'm getting *paid* to read, which is still totally freaking awesome.

Samhain in the local pagan community is tonight. I still haven't decided if I'm going to go or not. Last month, I would have said I was fine. Something's made me feel really raw and weepy lately though, so now I don't know. I don't like to cry in front of other people, but maybe this would be good for me, like the catharsis of a funeral. I don't know...

Anyway, thank you all for voting in the poll! I have a game plan now, that should take me through the next several months, with a few holiday-related interruptions!

Paid is a good thing. :)
What type of festival is it?

It's an end of the year/wheel of life/death thing. The invitation says "Autumn fades in glory and the trees all lose their leaves. The nights are filled with chill winds that rattle bare branches like bones. The Crone is on the move and the veil is frail and thin. We harken unto the passing of the year, the death of one life cycle to make space for another."

Sounded a little intense for two people who randomly cry because they walk past the dog's food-bowl spot and it's empty.

Ergh. You sound just like Kevin and I after Joxer passed away several years ago. We were devastated.

As far as the festival, it sounds like fun to me. Never having been to one, I'd go for the 'new and different' factor alone.

Yeah. It's only been 3 months. I know it will get easier over time, but we're not there yet.

I've been to Samhain several times, and my coven used to do a thing every year until we dissolved last year. I think it's better to be solemn and spiritual than sobbing in grief. ;)

Hello, and thank you for befriending me! I have never been to a celebration for Samhain, so if you go, I'd love to hear about it. I was actually watching a program the other night about the beginnings of Halloween, and it was very interesting. It mentioned how children would go door to door and "pray for those in Purgatory" for a soul cake, I think it was...

And being paid to read is actually my dream job, but I'm a little picky at what I read I prolly wouldn't do good at it.

Didn't mean to be a lurker for so long after you friended me, but I've had some things on my plate lately. I am too getting over the passing of my beloved cat. I think this Halloween is going to be the hardest, because I used to give him little pieces of twizzlers when I was younger and went trick-or-treating... He was a spoiled cat.

Please feel free to comment to me if you like. And thanks again for the friending...

*waves* So as you may have read in the other comment, I didn't go. I've been many times over the last decade or so, but this year my life has had too much death. Our local community group does regular rituals, though, so there's always next year.

Here's a good basic outline of what we do: http://www.soulrebels.com/beth/etiquette.html

Being paid to read defintiely had its down sides... Lots of the stories are crap (which I don't read past the first 10%) or not my cuppa tea (which ihave to at least skim). ut I love the press, so it all works out. :)

Welcome!
