ARGH

First off, let me say that I hate sewing. I do it sometimes, but I still hate it.

But my friend convinced me there was an exceptional sale on kidprint flannel and so I went with her and it was $3/yard and my jammies are 10 years old and so I bought bugs for me and crabs for my husband. And made a date with my friend to get together for a stich-n-bitch.

Which we did today. My pattern confused me, since I haven't sewed anything for at least 5 years, but she helped and it was all going so well... Until my stupidbloodyfuckingawfulFUCKING MACHINE DIED!!!!!! I finished the jammie bottoms and almost finished the top, and was just doing the hem on a sleeve when it got slower and slower and grindy noise and then just fucking STOPPED. No thread jam, I fiddled with the tension, sprayed out the fuzz with canned air, but no. Nothing will fix it. ARGH.

See if I ever try to fucking sew again. :P *grump*grump*grump*

Oh, and we got our thesis paper assignments/questions. We have to choose two. I selected one but all the other 11 look like nightmares and I'm quietly freaking out and mostly just not thinking about anything. *sigh*

I am so totally sorry to hear that you have bugs and crabs in your jamas. You can probably get something for that...

:P

I'll post pictures when they're finished and then you'll see how totally cool they are and wish you had bugs and crabs, too. :P

*hugs you with feeling*

My worst ever sewing machine breakdown was right before xmas and I'd made vests for my neices. All was sewn except the buttonholes!

Easily remedied - I dug out an old embroidery stitching book and learned how to sew buttonholes by hand. (They're beautiful, BTW, much prettier than machine-stiched ones, once you get the hang of it, and they don't take all that long.)

The only thing that will fix it is a trip to your friendly, local sewing machine hospital. I noticed earlier today my machine isn't as responsive as it should be. Time to take it in for its regular cleaning/oiling etc. I haven't had it maintenanced since it crapped out in the middle of a Galadriel costume over two years ago.

And my super-cool rebuilt Lux transistor amp is only working on one channel. Plus, my tape deck is busted. The dishwasher died two weeks ago, and my daughter's CD player crapped out. The problem with all these wonderful machines is that they fucking break all the time!!!

We're on a budget, so I said to my honey today "We must prioritize. What's more important at this moment in time - a dishwasher that works, or a proper stereo?" For me, it's the stereo, hands down. Especially since I run the DVD through the speakers...

Having similar school issue for an essay due very very soon. Topic one is doable, but dreadfully boring. The rest are hard, but at least I'll be interested... what to do??

Ooh, sewing by hand... *is impressed*

Cleaning? Oiling? *blush* My machine is over 10 years old (granted, it's been sitting covered and untouched for the last 4) and it's never been in for a check-up. Oops! Guess I know why it died now, huh?

I think I'd go with the stereo, too. Can always hand-wash, but you can't give up your movies!

Stupid school. :P

Sewing

I sewed up a hole in the toe of one of my socks (whilst wearing it - yea, I'm a badass) and I felt like the King Of Town for having accomplished such a feat.

But that's all I'm able to manage. I can't deal with the machines, so you can live happy in the knowledge that you're better than at least one person in the world.

*snort* Well, thank you for that. :) There's LOTS of things I can't do. This is one that I can do but SUCK ASS at.

Mostly, I'm just wondering when I turned into such a little suzy-homemaker type...

I got a sewing machine for last Xmas - not the one just gone. It's still in it's box. I'd love to be creative, I just can't be arsed most of the time. I made a stocking for my friend and it's been sitting in my room for the past couple of years, still bald!

I actually hand-stitched the felt appliques onto my husband's xmas stocking this year because I couldn't be bothered to find and unpack my sewing machine. It took forever, but it seemed like less of a pain in the ass than getting out the machine!

Hmm, well I did make the stocking by hand since I didn't have a sewing machine at the time. I would like to be very creative and make stuff, I love doing cross stitch embroidery too but there seems to be a whole lot less time to do it all in these days. Oh well baby steps I suppose.

My little sister is currently studying art at college, she's going to be doing fashion this term as well so she announced that she was going to make me a skirt. A skirt says I, hmmm, can't you make it for our other sister instead? Nope she says cos Donna's a bitch, I said well so am I, she said no you're not, and I'm going to make it with a print of *mumbles something about Venetian buildings*
Great says I. *looks worried*
Apparently I can't just put it away and say look what my sister made me, I'm going to have to wear it too. :-)

Yeah, that's the problem with people making you things - the gift always comes with strings attached, that you'd better wear/use it. :)

LOL - I'm sure your hubby doesn't feel that way though. ;-)
