Harry Potte recs list update
Jan. 30th, 2005 12:00 amAfter two weeks of working on it, ever since
slash_elitists was started, I *finally* finished a project I started three fucking years ago -- a recs page for Harry Potter fanfics. I had an Excel spreadsheet with over 200 fics and I managed to cut that down to about 50 fics AND find working links for them all.
This was no small task; I had to get rid of any fics I couldn't remember (clearly not very good), all WIPS (except 2 outstanding ones), anything I simply couldn't track down at all, and *cough* re-read the ones I wasn't sure about or had been completed since I stopped reading HP two years ago (after all, if I would only read it once, it musn't be that good.)
So if you read HP slash, go, reap the fruits of my labor. :)
Frankly, I have to say, the good writers in HP slash are GREAT writers, but there are SO many crappy writers in that fandom... I would say the LOTR-FPS fandom is slightly better, the POTC slash is even better, and the LOTR_RPS is the best-quality writers of any fandom I've read.
Anyone else notice anything similar (or want to flame me for being so wrong) in their fandoms?
Also, I can't sleep. Massive insomnia. I keep getting wired and restless around 11 PM... Most annoying. Blech.

Date: 2005-01-30 06:20 pm (UTC)I would agree that LOTR_RPS has the best-quality writers - but I almost think they have to be because of the subject matter. I was hesitant about reading in that fandom until i stumbled across Zarah5's work, which just blew my mind. I haven't found much LOTR_FPS that I thought was really believable, and my personal penchant for Will/Norrington has left me with very little to read in the POTC fandom. And as for HP, I think HP slash will always be my favourite because there are so many good writers in the fandom - though I have yet to find a single hetfic in HP that I liked.

LOTR-FPS - There is some I like, but a lot that I don't. I think with the big huge fandoms it's still only 15% readable, but there's so much more crap in the big ones that it's hard to find that 15%... Anyway, I had some recs for that fandom too, on my web page. I'd be interested in know what you consider "believable." :)
I think I remember Webcrowmancer's site (http://catthause.com/webcrow/mercy.htm) having Will/Norrington slash, but it seems down. I don't know if that's permanent or just today, though.
I guess I should work on my POTC recs next...
Het? *runs screaming* (Actually, though -- there's a het scene at thee nd of "Rat's Alley" that's kind of... um. Yeah. ;)
